I'm interested in hearing how this goes behind the taco. I was looking at lightweight trailers to pull behind my taco. I don't need a huge toy hauler for the desert, but I don't want to be out in the 20 degree nights in a tent.

A new Rockwood A-Frame should cost somewhere between 10-13K. I think the Taco should do fine pulling it, I do have the tow pkg. and I also added a brake controller along with the Firestone airlift & Daystar cradles. This is basically the same setup that I had on my 4Runner.P4120158.jpg

These tow great behind the Tacoma. I have the same one as well and towed it with my '11 no problem. I'll be towing it this weekend, hooking up today, with my '16 so I'm hoping it'll be just as good.

I know this is for 3rd Gen, but I wanted to show it with the Taco:

It was a little tongue heavy, but I think that is mainly due to my receiver being a little too low. As others said, this is a 2015 model and it weighs I believe around 2100lbs dry. It costed my a little over 10k new. The A-liner model is actually a tad lighter, little more narrow but costs more. The Rockwood is more bang for your buck but weights more.

Do these have brakes on them from the factory or will you have to add them on?

The trailer came with factory electric breaks. I just installed my controller and everything was good to go. It was pretty much 100% ready to roll when I got it. Two tanks on the front, fridge, microwave, cable outlet, onboard water tank, hot water heater, AC, heat pump, heat furnace as well, even a shower on the outside. You can get them without the storage box on the front as well, but it only costed an additional $500 so we got it.

I believe your trailer came with the "off road" package right? Slight lift on the trailer with larger tires? I want to get that added to mine eventually. I need to call the place I got it from to see if they can do it there.

Yes, the A122 SXR is the Off-road model, the frame is bigger ( 6 " rails ), 15 " wheels w/off-road tires. This may be labeled as an off-road trailer, but I would never take it down any hard trails, maybe a well maintained fire road, but that`s about it. The biggest benefit of the lift is the increased approach and departure angles, which helps with preventing damage to the stabilizers. You should be able to add the axle riser and the 15" wheels/tires. I agree that these campers are slightly tongue heavy, that`s why I added the air lift, it really helps to balance the truck out.

That's what I was thinking. Mine is just the A122 S. I would like it for the slightly increased angles. We took ours to the mountains and it would have been a little better with the better angles. I think I'm going to look into air bags or a small weight distribution hitch for mine. I had helper springs on my last one that seemed to help, but air bags would be better.

    Lovely Rockwood!

I have a Aliner Ranger trail boss. 2300 pounds and more ground clearance that my 2"/1" lifted Tacoma on 32's.

So nice being able to set up in under. Minute.

First we slept in the back of the truck. Then we bought a 10x10 tent with a boot, and the truck was the bedroom. Then the 09 Chalet. These popups, whatever make, are great. Fold down behind the truck, no wind resistance, 8ft ceiling inside, love it.
Towed it all over the Western US, WA-CA, NM to MT, and everything in between. The 02 Taco: 2.7, 5sp manual.
Selling it, just took delivery on a 16 TRD OR, Auto. on Dec 30. Very excited to match the trailer and the 16 together. Will be afew months to get several hundred miles on the truck first.... If you can get by without tons of conveniences that full size trailers off, the A-frame is the way to go. By the way, I keep the weight of the trailer below roughly 2300lbs. Very light. The 16 will also have a canopy on it. Pictures as they come.
Would be very happy to converse with all popup owners with their '16 Tacomas, or ANY Tacoma for that matter. Just look at "Start a conversation" in the OP window.

Took the camper out this weekend to get away for a few days. The '16 towed it great honestly. Hit the ECT button and left it in S-mode at 5th gear. Didn't have any issues with it hunting like others have said. Only thing I'd really recommend when towing is don't be scared to give it a little bit of gas to get going. I'm not saying floor it or anything, but half throttle is a good start to get up and going. You have to remember the power is in the upper RPMs, which mine never went past 4k and that was only because I was taking off, and you are adding over 2k more pounds behind you. I went on a local trip this time. It was probably less than 30 miles one way. I was mainly highway going 65mpg and the trip average when I turned the truck off said around 16mpg. I didn't snap any pics of it attached, but here are a few random shots.

It was pretty chilly at night and we had some coffee in the pot. The coffee was steaming inside the pot leaking out the top. We had a light on the side of the camper turned on so I snapped this shot.

We took mutt number 1 with us and left the other one with someone since he's only 4 months old. He'll be coming with us shortly.

Couple of shots of the riverbank where we went. It's the end of the river mouth leading into the ocean.
