Is that an old Mighty Max/Ram 50 I see in the background? Tell me that's not what you were driving before you bought your '16!

I agree about the weight of the wheeels. So here is the back story on the SR:
In late Sept. I went to the dealer to order a truck:
SR, barcelona red, convienence pkg., black alloy wheels, receiver hitch, all weather floor mats. The salesman leaves me in the lobby staring at the ceiling. He comes back and says, "It will be two months to get one, but we found one at the delivery center in Houston": SR, barcelona red, convienence pkg., steel wheels, carpet mats. I work overseas and am about to leave and won't be back till January, so I say okay. Next week I call back and they say, "The original dealer won't let go of the truck." So I tell them to order the one I originally wanted. I come back early from overseas and find the truck is in. I get there and it was the substitute truck MINUS floor mats. Grrrrr. The dealer says he can reorder the truck (two more months)....."Hell no! Gimme the keys." He says that the black alloy wheels are not "late availablity on the SR" (if even at all on the 2016). None of the accessories I wanted are available yet in their parts system, but when he can get them he will install them on my truck for not more than the package cost (or less depending on his cost). I would have gotten the hitch if he had placed it on the order sheet. Also, he said I can have the steel wheels that come off (for snow tires). Okay, whatever, I do love the truck as is.

That truck in the background is a Mazda B2600 that never became driveable. Makes a good kyak rack though. I was driving a 1998 VW Jetta TDI that I bought new. 277,000 mi., original turbo, original water pump, original alternator, original CLUTCH!, 48 mpg. I added power steering fluid to it one time. (probably needed to check that again.) I figure everybody deserves a new car every 18 years even if you don't need one.

    Gotcha.
Well, moving from a '98 Jetta to a '16 Tacoma is still one hell of an upgrade. Congrats on movin' up!

Do you know what overdrive is? It is any transmission gear ratio that is higher than 1:1. 5th gear is 0.805:1, which makes it an overdrive gear.

In other words, there is no difference between "5 speed" and "4 speed plus overdrive". They are exactly the same thing.

And FYI: The 6-speed MT's for 2016 have TWO gears that are overdrive ratios.

love your truck OP. I decided to get the same configuration (SR 4x4 5-speed manual). Gas mileage is decent?

Thanks, I like it a lot. Worst tank so far is 22 mpg. I was driving with the defroster on some. This runs the A/C compressor. I wish there was a way to disable this feature.

    Wait whaaaaaa?

When you put the temp on red/hot, and the fan targeting the windshield, it runs the AC? What if I run the heat and fan on my feet? This don't make no sense!

The evaporator condenses out the water. Then it is run through the heater which gives you dry warm air onto the windshield. It keeps it from fogging up, especially on a cold rainy day. This happens when the selector knob is turned to either one of the defroster symbols. But you don't always need this. Maybe it turns off when it is colder. I don't know.

Finally someone with a 16 access cab taco! Thank you for all this info. So if I put a 1" lift in the front and 275/75/16 on mine would the 4 banger be drastically affected? With a lighter wheel like you suggested.
