They claim 33ft/lbs torque increase. Does your butt feel that? It should, because that a significant gain. I'd hate to waste $450.

Also notice they don't reuse the header heat shield. I wonder how that will effect the longevity of hoses and component close to it.

Did you notice an increase in fuel economy?

Congrats on the new to you truck and welcome to TW. I agree with you about the Nokian tires. They are great!

It seems like I get to 40mph faster and without tromping on the gas. What I don't like is that it's a lot louder. As a recycled teenager I prefer quiet to a throaty exhaust. I may be getting a little better Mpg's as well but who knows.

You have two many varibles in yours to know if the header was an improvement and the noise increase I suspect is from the cat back exhaust and charcoal filter removed.

I be scared of running an oily K&N filter with the charcoal filter removed. Those MAFs are expensive!

I haven't bought a header yet. Just the catback. I'd like to though!

Yeah me too. Didn't realize it was an oil type 'til I opened it. In another 10k miles I'm gonna swap it for a pro dry S.

I've recently purchased Doug Thorley Header THY-590Y-C. They claimed more lower mid range torque and the 14 medal gauge was a lot thicker along with better platting. Overall much better quality than Ice headers, reused the gasket, nuts, and studs. One additional note they supplied two new bolts/nuts for the header flange, that bolts to your stock exhaust system. Suggest to purchase two large flat washers, to help take up the large diameter hole of where the stock spring flange were. You're not going to use the stock flex springs on the flange, so the hole is going to be fairly big, that's where the flat washers will be used. Install took about 3.5 hours from start to finished, w/bathroom breaks. http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com/Exhaust/Doug-Thorley-Header?set-vehicle=1 This is an update. Had an exhaust leak wasn't even sure where it was. After a visit to a second muffler shop, found out it was a poor alignment of the header flange from Doug Thorley. Ended up welding the catalytic converter pipe straight to the header, in which I voided my D.T. warranty due to alternation.

I'm in my 60's very fortunate to be able to turn on this Computer & you want me to describe in detail what I did. Then you'll be demanding color pictures! LOL! Ice had a very nice video Doug Thorley just gives you paper instructions, but the quality is much better! Toyota gaskets if you call it a gasket is just a thin piece of medal.

Perfect, your just the guy I want to hear from. I'm in my 50's and I'm looking forward to your opinion on the header. Sometimes it's tough to get a good review of a product from the under 30 crowd. Take some pictures and post what you think. I personally like a quiet truck and if I do this it would be with the stock exhaust.

This is the exhause tip I ordered http://www.4wheelparts.com/Performa...ip.aspx?t_c=74&t_s=49&t_pt=3203&t_pn=hed17121 . Hoping to get it soon, but even if there's no drop in sound. The headers were well worth the money, to get a little more torque out of the motor. I got these around the first week in Dec. for about $370 on sale, now it's an even lower price at about $330! Murphy is always following me around!

That's what I'm looking for, a little more torque. The tip for aesthetics and nothing more, may change the sound a touch. I use to own my own shop and we custom bent exhaust systems for vehicles. Lots of crap headers out there that claim an increase in torque but never really delivered. Very interested in your results.

I forgot to ask, is your truck 2WD or 4WD. When I go to the Doug Thorley website and do a search for part #THY-590Y-C nothing comes up and searching for my truck header nothing. When I checked the Auto Accessories Garage site it just states 2WD.

A tip will do nothing except make it louder! I installed an AFE catback and the tip made it even louder than the exhaust did, with a very annoying drone. Removed it immediately.

Did you remove the exhaust? I had a forum member contact me (lives close to me) and wanted to trade his TRD exhaust for my stock exhaust. He said it was too loud for his taste but I expected it was because of the drone at highway speeds.

    Are you running a header?

@matbaugh, you could probably drop 40-50 lbs if you switched all 5 wheels to aluminum. I noticed a big butt-dyno improvement on my 4 cylinder Tacoma when I did that. Those 2nd gen steel wheels are pretty heavy.

No. Just the AFE catback. The muffler they use is pretty aggressive. But when you take your foot off the gas it almost seems like the engine quits. It's that quiet at no load when moving.
