Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
i think i like that design better than the ones i made. i have two 4" and one 6", all about 5' tall. i just used a regular 90 elbow and then cut a 12" piece in half that is stuck into the bottom side of the 90 that acts sortof like a tray...think of an L with the bottom piece cut in half. i also drilled some holes in the "tray" so the rain won't collect in it. the corn on the tray acts as a "stopper" so the rest doesn't just pour out. i got lucky and scored everything but the cleaner, glue and caps from work...old stuff just laying around. they work great for me...though it gets expensive keeping them filled. the four inchers hold about 1-1/2 buckets of corn, and the 6 inch holds just over two buckets...my woodland critters will empty all three in a matter of a few days in the winter. i use a couple tarp straps to secure them to a tree.

i also have two broadcast feeders, neither of which are in use currently. one is an OnTime, the other is a Moultrie...anyways, both are 200lb feeders of the tripod variety. both use digital timers. i don't reccomend the mechanical timers...not very reliable or flexible on feeding times. i had a trailcam on one a few years back and got some good pictures of a few small bucks, some coons, and even a few crows...till someone stole my camera  of the two i like the OnTime better. the design of the barrel is superior to the Moultrie, as is the feeding motor. originaly it had the mechinical timer, but it broke so i replaced it with their digital Lifetime motor, which works great, but was broken last year by probably a coon. the shaft on the spinner plate gave out. i figure it was empty and a coon (bastards still climbed the legs even after i greased them lols) was probably tugging on it to try to get some goodies. i still haven't gotten it fixed. the Moultrie is also out of commision, again thanks to some theives. they stole my solar charger and rechargable 6v battery out of it...so i kinda said screw it. you can't have nothin' nice...you know? i have one other device i can only call a "trough" LOL it's a wooden box i made of treated lumber about a foot deep, 2 feet wide and 3 feet long...it has a slanted flat roof overtop that is high enough for the "big boys" to get their head under...i made it cause i wasn't always able to keep the broadcast feeder at that location full. the "trough" holds about 150lbs of feed.

anyone feed anything besides straight corn? i have my own little mix that i make up. 50% shell corn, 35% ADM deer feed, and about 15% black oil sunflower seeds. desert is usually laying on the ground beside the feeders...a Trophy Rock. i highly reccommend the Trophy Rock...i've tried all the other stuff: deer cocaine, stump licker type products, mineral lick kits and regular old salt blocks...they prefer the Trophy Rock over all others. they will literally dig a hole where it was after it's gone. the feed mix i make seems to work well also as there's never any left lying around.

nice job on the feeder WildJersey, and good luck!

edit: ^^ long ass post..haha Ive planted a few food plots using a mix of wheat and oats with a broadcast feeder/slinger in the middle, feced off to keep the cows out. works pretty good when the other farmers dont plant whear for the year.

to the OP, cool idea and i hope it works for ya! hopefully the birds wont perch up on it and eat all the dang corn!

I found out deer like candy..I went to walmart and got about $10 worth of $1 bags of assorted candy when halloween was over, and mixed it in with the shelled corn. After about 2 days, it looks like a small army went throu the feed site:D

I was using some apple pellets from Dicks, and the deer really liked it, but that stuff is expensive..$12 for 5lbs:rolleyes:

The only thing i'm not looking forward to on this feeder, is filling it. I'm thinking/hoping it will hold about 100lbs:eek:

corn can get expensive for sure. i am lucky that there is a huge feed mill right downtown where i live. i think the last i bought was like $38-40 for 500lbs. of shell corn. there is a price break @500lbs. the ADM deer feed they sell runs about $12/40lb. i usually only buy the sunflower seeds when they are on sale..maybe $12-14/50lbs. damned food plots are what can really get expensive. i didn't plant anything this year due to lack of fundage.

well I put it out sunday, and filled it with not as much as I'd like, probbaly around 30-40lbs and it was full. I hung it in the tree about 1' up, and left. I'm going to go out tomorrow and check it to see if they hit it or not.

took them about a week to find mine.... also you will find that once it is found it will be empty in like two days due to all the hungry little critters around. I would like to make one with a larger pipe then neck it down to hold more....

well its not going to be hard for them to find it, since its about 3' to the left of the corn pile, and dribbled some corn from the old pile to this feeder..Im just not sure if there going to know what to do with it..lol

And also, I thought about doing the larger diameter, to the smaller one, but decided against it for right now. Getting 10' of 4" pipe home was odd enough, I cant imagine getting anything larger in my truck lol
