    Same as everybody else...
That is too cool. Sounds like the perfect place to grow up, something a lot of kids today could not understand.

Yeah, it was awesome, by the age of 10 I was roaming miles from home across the countryside, down along Rock Creek. Never any fear of being kidnapped, or anything like that. Different world back then.

Happy New Year, hope it is a good one for everybody!

When I was stationed in Lancaster County I used to cross the river and archery hunt in York County. But when I had time would usually run the 4 hours North back home to Tioga and Bradford Counties. On the West rim of the Pa. Grand Canyon is part of a homesteaders cabin and the kitchen in the State Park. That was my Mothers Great Great Great Grandmothers kitchen, Grandma Hat is how everyone referred to her. Short for Hatfield. Also grew up working dairy farms including milking by hand for $1 an hour. In the glacial moraine deposits of the mountains we grew more rocks than anything else, tough farming. Made my first 100 dollar bill running a trapline.

I forgot to order a brick of Scrapple from Leona meat plant in Troy, Pa. this year so no special breakfast or lunch for me this year :(

Up till a couple years I used to be a frequent visitor to Potter and Tioga metro area. Had a friend living near Ulysses in Potter and roamed that area close to 30 years.

I liked it better before all the fracking and trucks it has brought in, it has changed a lot. But some people now have an income there that they didn't before.

    Same as everybody else...
Most folks can't name their neighbors anymore. Growing up in then rural Southern Maryland I knew my neighbors a mile in any direction. Growing up I use to rabbit and squirrel hunt on a farm across the street from my house. It was owned by a guy that use to play in the Negro baseball league who inherited it from his parents. The farm was 99 acres cause that's all of the land a negro could own at that time, his parents were servants at a large farm across the street and that land was granted to them. As a kid I use to sit on his porch and learned a lot from him, mostly that folks of any race are the same. The house didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing. That little farm house was bulldozed a few years after he died. Now on that farm a subdivision grows and I doubt anyone living there has any clue of the history of that land or the man that owned it.
