I doubt it's that bad, and I know my Celica I had wouldn't go into overdrive until it was warmed up enough. All vehicles are effected by the cold. Don't let the thread scare you. Besides if you live in a cold climate get a remote start. Start it and let it run for 10-15 min before you go out to it when it's real cold. Sometimes In the extreme cold that's not even enough to warm it up and I'll start mine again

X2 on the remote start. I have it on all vehicles I own/have owned. I attribute letting engine warm up properly to my engines lasting as long as they do. Last car had 350k when I sold it. No engine problems ever.

I install them for a living so I always have them on all my vehicles and do them for my family as well. Great for winter, but also good for the summer during the hottest days to cool down the vehicle before hand. Especially if you have leather!

Do people put remote start on manuals? Is there a way to install an interlock so it doesn't start if in gear?

You can install one on a manual. We use Compustars. There is a mode called "reservation mode" the vehicle has to be in this mode to remote start. You put the vehicle in neutral, press the brake and apply the emergency brake, then let off the foot brake and wait a second. Turn the key off and the vehicle will stay running. This ensures the vehicle is in neutral and the emergency brake is applied. Once you open the door and get out, simply shut the door and the vehicle will turn off and lock the doors. The newer units also require a shock/tilt sensor. If at any time that is activated it will not allow the vehicle to start until the reservation mode is reset. Thus being very safe.

It was -21 at mid-morning today in Silverton, but I park in a garage so I haven't had the trouble. Have left it parked at 11,000' all day several days this month below zero, however, and did not have the problems you mention then.

To some people it's a surprise there's a Nevada outside of Las Vegas. Everytime I go out of state people ask me if I go to Vegas often for the weekends:facepalm: My truck has never seen the garage and probably never will but I haven't noticed any of those problems but I'll keep paying attention.

I just experienced the same issues this morning, truck displayed -12℉ when I started it. Almost relieving that it's "normal" with these trucks in the extreme cold.

The difference for me is I have an automatic, and I noticed the shifter was stiff and sort of felt heavy when going from PARK to DRIVE. I figured the ATF has thickened up from the cold. Either way I'm almost 2500mi into this truck, and this cold weather start-up has been the only issue. As long as these symptoms aren't harmful to the truck, hopefully this is the last of the sub-zero days this winter.

EDIT: I didn't run the windshield wipers, so I don't know if they would've been sluggish or not, but I imagine they'd act the same as yours. I actually wanted to use them once, but was afraid to do so haha.

Lol gotta love a 10 hour window, that's more like a sliding door haha.

Keep us posted what's going on. I would say check all fuses just to be sure but it sounds more like a computer problem, and it's too cold to be dicking around with it outside

From what I have read it could be a fuse. I'm not a mechanic. Thanks again for your input.

Usually the blower motor and shift release wouldn't be on the same circuit but anything is possible. Does the shifter release and go into gear? Or will it not come out of park?

Forget AAA, you have Toyota roadside. It's usually much faster. 800-444-4195 give them your name and VIN number.

With the weather being so bad I'm sure there are lots of calls. Only reason it might be a little faster is Toyota can probably use any towing company they want. AAA uses only authorized AAA members. Not all towing companies are registered with AAA
