Did Gen 2 have this many issues where they came out?

Mine had the same issue with the rear window seal on the drivers side. Took it into my Toyota dealership, and they didn't have the truck for ten minutes before they told me they were going to order a new seal for both rear windows. In fact I'm sitting at the dealership right now waiting for my truck to be ready.

Lol, my dad had an old Mustang that for the longest time had a rattle in the door when he'd hit bumps sometimes. He just thought it rattled because it's a Ford. Eventually the window needed something repaired, so he takes it apart, and inside of the door frame he found a coke bottle. The spot it was in the only way it could have ended up there is if it was placed there on the assembly line. I like to hope that stuff doesn't happen these days, but who knows ...

I bought a 2015 because I didn't want a first year Gen 3. It seems most people are happy with theirs though. It's a Toyota, they make fine automobiles. Shouldn't have many if reputation precedes them correctly.

I put a deposit on a 2016 because I need a new vehicle and it's what they're selling now ... I have enough trust in Toyota engineers to get shit right, and if they missed something or the tech at the plant messes something up, well then I have enough faith in their warranty services to fix it. They may have not gotten everything right in the past, but they have good rep for fixing their mistakes and making it right with customers

It's rare to find that kind of stuff. Because of how fast the stuff moves down the assembly line. But some people just don't I've a fuck and would do shit like that.

You'd be surprised the stuff you find in new cars. When I was working at a dodge store, we got a few new vehicles in (don't rennet the models) but they were assembled in Mexico. Well the cars would show up and smell aweful. There would be dirty clothes and rags in the back seat. Now sure if they left them unlocked on the storage lots or what but you could tell people had been sleeping in them, for probably a few days. Couldn't even explain how bad the smell was in a brand new car. No way in hell would I of bought one of those things. I'll have to think for a bit and see if I can remember any other good ones

I don't think Ford, GM, Dodge or any of the other would be replacing frames on trucks with over 100k miles. They also replaced the 3.0 liter V6 engines that blew head gaskets up to 100k miles on the 89-94 models. What other company has done that?

Toyota may not make perfect trucks but they seem to make the best of the rest right now, I do like the fact that they go out of their way to fix whatever is wrong, that's why I keep buying them. That's where the owner satisfaction comes from.

I don't tit for tat on the different generations, I like them all and don't think really any is better than another.

Damn....these "my gen can beat up your gen" threads are starting to look a lot like the average oil threads around here.

What I've kind gathered from my short spurts through the 3rd gen section is that quite a bit of guys that are reporting "issues" are either first time tacoma owners or first time truck owners. I think that probably has a big roll to play when something squeaks or rattles and the panic sets in.

Talked to a guy yesterday at the gas station. He was in a rental car and was complimenting my bumpers (pelfrey bilt). He said he'd just bought a 2016 OR and at 3 days old it completely shut off while doing 60 mph down the highway (not the first time I've heard of a 3rd gen deciding it wanted to shut off) Fucking scary for sure...but truth be told, if I had the money, I'd be in a 2016 right now.

    Love the look
    Love Toyotas
Those little issues are transparent to me..

Oh but I am.....Toyota fan boy that is.

Don't get me wrong. I love my truck. Done everything I've wanted to do to it. Armor, gears, locker, lights, more lights. It can and had taken me everywhere I want to go on this island with only 1 issue (snapped leaf spring). I'd just like to be riding in something new but can't afford it hahaha

Tacoma World.....one of the few enthusiast sites where you're chastised for actually being enthusiastic about the vehicle that promotes the site. Figure that one out.

    You.....OUT!! :annoyed:

Hell....my first 2 Tacos were 4's. Loved 'em. The only reason my '15 is a 6 is because it was basically a gift from the wife. As I've stated a couple of times....if something happened to my '15, I'd be back in a 4 banger without hesitation. I'd rock a '16 4 cyl, ACLB 4x2...no problem. My only issue would be the fact that Toyota dropped the manual tranny in the 2WD. WTH Toyota? :angrygirl:

Toyota deserves a big pat on the back because some 2016 tacomas don't have the build quality issue that others do. Why are some people so excited and happy that after 3 months their hood isn't rattling, sunroof isn't leaking, and door seals are defective. These things shouldn't happen in the first place.

13 years and 275k miles and my bros 4runner doesn't have ANY build quality issues. Once the 2016s reach half of that then we can call them a success. But you can't really compare a Japan built Toyota to the new age Mexican made vehicles.

The 2016 is new and shiny, but a 2005 Tacoma rolled fresh off the California OR Mexican line was a higher quality vehicle.

Not a fair statement. Doesn't matter where it's produced....you can't blame it on "those Mexicans made vehicles". The assembly plant can only assemble the parts they are given. The real pressure is on the designers, engineers and parts suppliers to do their jobs. The best assembly plant in the world can't "build out" poor designs, sloppy engineering, subpar parts and rampant bean counting.

And you're an expert on 2005 vs 2016 how ? You own both ? Or do you own neither ?

The quality of the vehicle is more a result of the engineering than where it's built. But hey, apparently you know it all so I'm sure you don't need to listen to anyone else.

    None needed.
The second gen trucks are great and so are the third. Someday third gen owners will be driving the older style and technology. Sad people will mock the 4th gen trucks because they are hybrid electric or the grill is too small or the new electric seats only adjust 8 ways instead of 10 bla bla bla. Us true Toyota owners are happy that we made the choice to buy the best, no matter what year we did so. They are good trucks, period. I suspect most of those throwing stones on this web site, aren't even Toyota owners. I must now complete my JD Power survey, mark another one up for the good guys :)
