No, i used to work for Philips medical systems whch was in NY. I was a field service engineer for them too. My job title was Magnet Specialist, fixing the magnet portion of MRIs. The market crashed and i got laid off. Aurora, the company i work for now, was hiring field service engineers and the only position they had was in cali. So i took it. My job now consists of not only fixing magnets but fixing the other components of the system. I do cover other sites if other engineers are on vaca or are at another site. In my career ive gone to every state in the us except alaska. Been to China, Hong Kong twice, Korea, Holland, mexico, puerto rico, canada.

Money is good and the job is so specialized im pretty much guaranteed a job for life. The biggest perk of the job is i sit at home waiting for a service call. if no service call i dont work but still get paid...:D

Training is really specialized. Philips builds the magnets for all of their MRIs in Albany, NY. I started working at the factory as a pee-on. I used to solder internal electrical components 8-12 hours a day 6 days a week (when the economy was good) at the same time i went to school full time taking Electrical Engineering. As i gained experience at the factory and learned more about electricity at school i started to move up the line and moved to the quality department inspecting solder joints and testing component integrity. From there i moved to the test department where i learned about cryogenics (really cold shit) Liquid nitrogen (-273F)and liquid helium (-452F). Then my boss at the time, who ran test and prototype development departments, wanted me to work on prototypes. Philips then paid me to quit college and sent me to a specialized training school where i learn all about superconductors and magnet service. As soon as i was done with their school they offered me a job in field service travelling all over the globe fixing mri magnets. Sorry for the book but yeah, training was pretty involved. After Philips laid me off, i work for Aurora and my training continues on MRI imaging components...really involved and really sucks but makes the resume look good. Im so done with school but i still have to attend online classes for the company mondays and thursdays. Been at this for 6 years. I was hired in the factory from a job as a cashier at the local grocery store.
