2008 DC TRD Off Road or Sport questions

I have an '04 DC SR5 Auto, mostly hang out on the 1st gen forum.
But recently was thinking of upgrading to the '08 DC 6-speed Off Road or Sport.
What (if any) are the nagging issues with the 2nd gen Tacos?

The cruise control in mine sucks.

 

Stay where you're at, you have a fine truck, I would say the only thing that's a concern for me is the timing belt issue. just my .02

 

The tailgate has been fixed on later production models, and there is some argument as to whether or not the new leafs are fixed as well, but that may or may not be an issue depending on the driver and if you can get toyota and your dealer to do the TSB anyway.

I went with the newer models instead of a used first gen. because of the much larger interior space.

 

I thought for sure the 2ng gen taco's had timing chains?

 

Well then what was concrete jedi talking about? That dude knows his shit, so I'll assume he's not wrong. Was there some early 2nd gen trucks that had timing chains?

 

Tailgate and leaf springs.

Otherwise my Taco is as problem free as a vehicle can get.

 

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on an '08 Sport. I have owned (31) vehicles, and this '04 really disappointed me. No offense to the 1st genners, but just too many "issues" with this one (mine anyway). I think part of the problem was I acted too quickly trading my F350 in...everyone was dumping the Super Duties, and I thought I got one of the last good deals (some dealers aren't even taking them now). Getting excited, wife gave green light to lift too!

 

Did a little more research, lots of threads on 1st gen vs. 2nd gen. In the end just couldn't do it. Didn't want to end up with the extra burden of a loan and new problems. So, back to just modded my '04.

 

I just went from an '04 F-150 to an '08 DC LB Sport and I am feeling the size difference. I've got the longest (biggest) truck offered in a Tacoma, I should have looked at the Tundra. I don't know how you went from an F-350 to a first gen Taco.

 

I love the F150s, especially the newer ones. But I did not need the size or gas bill that comes with one. Nor are they that good at off roading.

 

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's "different"! Just went to Maine and back though...22 MPG vs. 11 MPG, so it's all good. I only used the F350 (as an F350) about once a month, now it just takes longer (like loads to the dump), or I have to rent a truck (like from Home Depot when I bought 34 sections of fence last month)! Going with a 3" suspension on the Taco and maybe some 285/75's, it'll make it look bigger, and hopefully help with the load capacity in the rear.
