hey folks I live in Maryland and it is hard to get a OR long bed PT, JBL 4x4 DBL cab. So here is what I was thinking. I have relatives in CA and if I ordered it there and drove it back to Maryland I figiuired I could get it quicker. I would not have to pay CA sales tax because I am a Maryland resident. I would just need to drive it across country

I think it'd be a cool trip if you had some extra time to see some shit. Tho I'd be somewhat concerned about the break in period depending on the route you choose (time of year may help dictate that). Also, from reading on here (very little with comprehension) I'm not sure how good of a deal you can get on Kalifornia.

Fly and Buy.....Shipping will cost $900 or more. I had a car shipped once and won't do it again

What better break in than traveling across the country through small and large cities, changing up speeds on the freeways?

I just drove from California to Tennessee. There's nothing hard about driving on a freeway.

The MOST you'll see is LIGHT snow and a bit of rain. Buying the new truck means new tires. New tires can handle that weather with no problem. Just be a smart driver and take things slow.

If you have the time, go for it. It could be a really fun trip. But the travel across would take a minimum of a week. So take that into consideration.

That's what I was thinking. If this is about saving money, I doubt a cross country flight and road trip is the cheaper option. Just order one up and wait it out.

@Z50king had a hard time finding a DCLB OR, even in CA; and getting a deal was even harder. His specific options may have made it worse, but I'm pretty sure the DCLB OR is fairly rare, even in the People's Republic of Kalifornia.

Somewhere there's a post showing the allocation for SoCal for each model. I remember the DCLB OR 4x4 being one of the rarest.

Just picked mine up, If your looking for an identical one there was one that landed this past week near sacramento. Most dealers out here are charging $3-5k over msrp, the ones I found were not. If your serious, call Abbey at Toyota of Fairfield and see if they still have it.

Not really about the money. 4x4 dbl call long bed with PT and JBL you are going to pay dealer asking price when they have to order it. If it was already on the lot you may get some small discount. This idea came about because I was thinking a order in CA would take a shorter to delivery since we are talking about the west coast.

The OR DCLB accounts for 4% of Tacoma production. So you can say its a rare build/model and dealers know that.

True, I did find a handful that popped up last week in California, but none had the JBL like mine. So mine is a bit more rare.
