Hey Guys I'm looking into putting an exhaust on my truck just to make it sound better. Can I get some opinions on what brand to go with? and I'm planning on matching it with a K&N CAI at the same time. It seems like there's a lot of dispute about them but I've decided I'm still gonna do it. Thanks for the feedback, good or bad.

Since you already know about the opinions on this forum, you have apparently read other posts, and your mind is made up, why start another thread? Just buy your K&N and some exhaust system (TRD?) and let us know how you like it.

You are not going to want to do a K&N on your truck. That cai is not designed well for our vehicles. It wont gain you anything either. There are really only two options if you are looking to make an upgrade rather then tossing money away. AFE pro dry and URD intakes are the only two intakes that have proven themselves across the board for the 1GR. (2012-2015)

As for exhaust, not much to gain there. Mostly what sound you like the best will determine your choice. If you want actual gains, URD spec-u exhaust is probably the best option.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

I've never seen an actual before&after dyno run(same vehicle, same state, same dyno) on any of them so I don't believe any of the "gains" being claimed. I've never heard one that sounded that great either. :notsure:

I would you tube a few vids and make a choice. I've got the TRD exhaust and like it. Other items to note Toyota claims 5-8 hp and some better torque in some ranges. They have to prove it, otherwise false advertising. Will I throw my truck on a dyno before and after? Nope, didn't care. Sounds good and I think looks good too. Not a ricer sound in my book and improves the fun factor a bit. Cheers in your search!

There are some forums tucked away on xr underground i believe on some of them. Gadget has also done some dyno stuff with his URD intake and exhaust. As well as another intake on one of the forums. So there are some dyno charts floating around. Ive seen them, they are just tricky to find.

Torspd may chime in on this if he is lurking about today. That guys probably knows where all this information is located better than anyone.

Yeah I've seen the "hidden" ones and none of them are actual before and after runs. It's truck "A" in state "A" on dyno "A" compared to truck "B" in state "B" on dyno "B". Unless there are actual back to back dyno runs I haven't seen taken before and after the exhaust?

I'd be all over an exhaust that has actual before/after proven results. Seems kinda weird nobody has them easily accessible, doesn't it?

Well its not easially accessable because its kinda a lot of work to set up. I mean dyno runs are not exactly cheap for some people and they might not have the time to dyno, stop , then add an exhaust/ other mod, then do more runs.

I understand what you are saying tho, but there is some thread here with a direct before and after dyno of an intake, i think it was performed by urd, but it wasnt theirs. It was another brand. Made like 6hp or something. They also have a direct before and after dyno of their newly dveloped equal length header system.

There are no easy answers for this stuff, but if you lurk about in the shadows long enough youll be able to piece togeather what you need. And a K&N intake isnt one of them lol.

It seems like it would benefit the companies selling these systems to provide actual back to back dyno runs demonstrating the gains. I understand it's expensive to do a base dyno run, install components and perform another dyno run, but solid proof like that would pay for itself in a few sales. I'd be sold.

It's way too dusty in AZ to confidently run a K&N. :tumbleweed:

I think the main problem with that is they make more money selling the possibility of hp rather then actual hp ("up to 15 hp") you know that kind of claim. If you put that intake on a car and get 7hp, thats great but there are so many vehicles out there, you could put that same intake on another vehicle and get -3hp. Each vehicle ill respond differently and no one wants to pay and advertise for a hp loss. Which, may be closer to reality for most products then people would believe.

I hear ya, and that's why I haven't pulled the trigger. ;) I'd be that guy with the -3 "gain" and nobody would believe me haha. :bananadead:

Haha yeah, you kinda have to look at it that way some times. I grabbed my intake partly because everyone said it would work, but mostly for the fact i knew it would make my supercharger much much louder lol.

What kind of exhaust are you looking for? Like just muffler, cat back or all the way from headers back?
I personally have a k&n CAI and a mbrp cat back exhaust on my 07 Tacoma.

yeah but we are both force inducted, headers, y pipe, 3" exhaust, and 2 mufflers. Not nearly the same animal and not gunna help the OP much when they just want an exhaust.....unless they are willing to spend about 2k on it.
