I know what you are going through. I went back and forth but pulled the trigger on a TRD Sport last week. There are some things that I wish it had like the remote start and power seats but those are far from deal breakers. Id rather have a reliable vehicle that I can depend on. If you are waiting to buy a vehicle that doesn't have issues or recalls you'll never buy anything. There is only one major issue that concerns me and thats the vibrations some are getting but I think there will be some fix from Toyota for that so Im not all that concerned. The rest are minor things and personal preference IMO

Any new vehicle, especially a model year with the new (to that vehicle) features will have some issues. I was extremely lucky with my 2005 Civic. Never had a dealer visit for a problem until the recent air bag issue. Its still a keeper for around town.

I know im going to give up some things trying to blend a full size truck with a Jeep. Im okay with that since it will simplify my life a bit.

Hasn't the vibration issue plagued the 2nd gen too? Congrats on your truck! have you posted any pics? Good post I agree, not deal breakers, but just they had added them.

I wish I had pics. Gotta wait 4-6 weeks for mine to be built.
I know there were some issues with the 2nd gen but I don't know if it's the same thing. Hopefully they figure it out soon.

From someone who had four including the 15 and 16, The issues are relatively minor. We are even close to a fix for those of us who have a howl. There are radio issues and a few replacements, Vibration issues (which are the most serious in my book) BSM issues on some, Shifting pattern issues, I only have the howl and it's days are very short ........

IF you like it buy it. The only advice would be to wait until the honeymoon and euphoria wear off and dealers have sitting stock with 14 Days on Market., Far Far to many are paying MSRP and some more. Don't get stuck there to get a truck today. I didn't. Others did ok too.

Thanks, I'd never give full MSRP. One Nissan dealer was that way, I think their nuts. I want a Taco again anyway.

My thoughts are that the Tacoma is a good truck but not nearly as "great" as some people on this forum make it out to be. In it's advantage it is reliable, fairly comfortable, has quality construction and excellent resale value, and of course their is the super incredible "go-pro mount" (I'm sorry, that was cynical). On the downside, it is overpriced for what it is, it is short of basic features you would expect for the price, the automatic tranny seems to shift via random number generator, and the fuel economy is not close what they claim it is. By the way, this is the only of several forums that I belong to where I tend to "bitch" as much as I do. It is not that the vehicle is that bad, overall it is actually pretty good. But it is almost comical how some people seem to worship this truck and give it far more credit that it is due.

Not sure how the off road seats feel but the Softtex in the Limited feel fine for my bad back. So in my opinion, comfortability is up there.

I have to agree, it needs to be $2-3k less, IMO. The no power seat & no remote start, but it has a "Go-Pro mount" that just gets me, sorry.

I was really thinking the truck I sat in at $36k should be just brushing up against $30k. So I'd say $5-6K overpriced with the limited being at least that.

Supply and demand. Why would you sell any product for less than the market is willing to pay? If you find a better value buy it. It's really pretty simple. Everything can't be $.05 Charlie Brown.

The market can only afford that because loan terms have extended out to 84 months with the average being the highest it's ever been. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

You're not the typical market. I pay cash too when rates are above what I can get on return.....which they're not.

Same thing with home values, you let everyone "afford" something and they all do. Then when the cards come crashing down, everyone who profited is pointing another direction. Wash rinse repeat.

Its not like Toyota is the only company you can find financing for 84 months. Again, if you find a better value buy it. Wishing things were cheaper will not make them so.

I wanted to get a 2nd gen, wouldn't have minded one with a few miles on it. Unfortunately in my area, Michigan, all the ones I've looked at had a little too much rust on them. Given their history with rusty frames I decided best to just buy a new one and try to do as much preventative rust-protection as I can.

I considered other vehicles, including a full size truck, and it came down to the 4Runner and Tacoma for my needs and desire to own a reliable vehicle that will last over 150k miles with minimal maintenance and repairs. Full size trucks just exceed my needs and don't fit in my garage, which is important to me being here in Michigan (nice to not come out to a car covered in snow...). Since I don't need 10k+ lbs of towing capacity it seemed easier to get a mid-size truck than a larger garage.

I honestly would have gone with the 4Runner, but spec'd out the way I wanted it would have been 7-9k more. I really just couldn't justify the cost, even though I thought the 4Runner was a lot more comfortable (better seats, adjustable, more legroom in back, etc.) and maybe even more capable off road (shorter wheelbase by about a foot?).

People complaining about the price being high should just look around. Everything is increasing in price with inflation. Well, everything except our paychecks  ... :(
