Bitch too get apart. But not bad. Pretty easy really.

 

To what does this refer? A dual swing out or a headlight housing.

 

Hey Monte, was there anything special that you found to keep in mind or do while doing the headlights? I think I might do this, but I might practice on my 4Runner first.

What does baking the headlight accomplish. More flexible so it doesn't break taking it apart?

Nah just go slow. Pretty easy.

IMO two spindles is weaker as a whole. While yes it's splitting load when it's open, it doesn't help it when it's closed. This is what I'm against for putting all that shit on the swingout. Mostly hi lift. It's too much weight for when your romping.

I'm not for a hi lift on a swingout with Jerry cans. It's one of the other.

Put the hi lift on the bed rack and axe and shovel.

 

Yea have to warm the silicone to split the lens. Super strong stuff. Bake it for 8 mins at 200°

 

I see your point but i dont think the addition of a hi-lift is going to be what breaks the bank. On my swing out I don't even notice the highlift on there. Especially when comparing it to the spare tire on the back.

Now as I reread that, WITH Jerry cans, I can see your point of over weight.

Having them split would still put all the weight onto the same base structure. While they are open the weight would be less for each individual swing out, but its the same increased load when closed. There also may be the instance if both swing outs were open and weight was distributed on them odd it would cause more stress on the base structure than just one. But that might just be in my head.

 

Yea I'm talking about how much the swingout moves when it's closed. When you're romping. The way most spindles attach they are just a small lever and weak. Having one of those and a big ass latch connecting everything else is stronger I think.

Yea, the way I was picturing it would be from your base bumper, if you had two singouts extended, then the two moments it created at the same time could cause more stress on the base bumper itself.

Not sure what Mike uses, just from what I read you mentioning its what popped in my head so I could be way off. My swing out has to be lifted a little to get it to where it latches back on. Its pretty stout and heavy.

More like the the force on the bumper where the spindles are connected.

 

Due to how the spindle attaches. A single shear like mine and mikes in plate steel isn't uber strong. Mikes is very beefed up to handle it though. Mine isn't. Makes the whole bumper flex when open and closed.

Due to the height of the spindle it still moves when closed because if the leverage of everything above, the tire and such.

I'm saying having a latch holding down one side like mikes bs two spindles is stronger because the latch is stronger then the spindle because of how the load is dispersed with the latch and the stop that holds the arm of the swingout ties it to the rest if the bumper stronger.
