Changing my transmission fluid.

    K&N drop-in air filter, body lift.
    I did search and saw that this has been gone over about a million times, but I couldn't really find the answer I was looking for. I'm trying to go about changing my important fluids and want to do the transmission and differentials. I see that it's going to take
    $30 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    75W-90 in the front and rear differential and the T-IV fluid from Toyota for the transmission. My one question is it best to just drain and fill the transmission, or to actually get it flushed? I know it would probably be dependent on how dirty it is, but I'd rather just do it myself than have to start it and then go get it flushed somewhere.

    I was told by a Toyota service writer that you only want to drain and refill, NOT FLUSH. He said that all the ones they drained and refilled, were fine; of the ones that got flushed, most came back with issues.

    I have heard the same thing. But from people that have had the trannys flushed.

    Chris or others,
    When you say you do a drain and refill, do you just drain at the plug or do you drop the pan? Also, do you recommend changing the filter? I have a 1st gen 02 with 36,000 miles. Probably never been done.

    I useually pull the pan, clean the screen, then reinstal and fill.

    i just did this last weekend. drained at the plug then realized there was no dipstick so pulled the pan down and filled. per the dealer its 3.2 liters to refill. cleaned the pan, didnt touch anything else.
