Has anyone had the warranty coverage flat out denied by a dealer for the TSB fix on a truck with an aftermarket lift? The TSB doesn't mention a warranty void for lifts but wondering if it is in the actual warranty itself?

Lots of dealers slap on lifts and sell new tacomas with warranty, so if that happened, you could at least throw out that argument...

I just put a 2 1/2 inch lift on my 2011 rc and right away I noticed the groaning noise between 25 and 40mph, I click it in 4 high and it goes way. So after reading this thread I got under my truck and tried moving my driver side cv where it goes into the diff. There was a lot of play like 1/8 to 1/4 inch of up and down play. Kind of scary how much play there is. The passenger side has very little if any play. I plan on taking it in to Toyota tomorrow in hopes of the tsb, I'm within warranty. I really hope they don't try to blame the lift, I don't even have 100 miles on it and there is way to much play for the lift to have caused it in that few of miles.

Warranty is 3 years or 36,000 I think? Or is that the bumper to bumper?

    Anyhow good luck!

My dealer has been easy to deal with so far. They just replaced a tire for me yesterday and are going to try to get it covered by road hazard (sidewall laceration).

No hassle on my TSB for the needle bearing either.

That's good to hear your dealership doesn't give you any problems. I was thinking this tsb would be covered under the limited powertrain warranty which is 7 years or 100,000 miles. Toyotas website states that all internally lubed parts are covered under that limited powertrain warranty. To my knowledge the needle bearing is a internally lubed part. Please correct me if I'm wrong? Kitty did your truck have some kind of aftermarket lift on it when you took it in for the needle bearing tsb?

I had OME full suspension system on it when I took it on. Dealer said nothing about it.

They also sell the OME system though.

Unless you have an extended warranty the powertrain is 5yr 60k miles. And it states it's covered under the 5yr 60k on the TSB itself. So if yours is extended it should still be fine, but if you don't past the warranty then they won't do it.

Thanks for the information. My truck is a 2011 with 55,000 miles. Hopefully that will qualify. Do you know if the warranty starts on purchase date?

Just got back from the dealer and they are ordering the parts to do the needle bearing tsb. Should be getting installed on Wednesday. I'm very happy this is covered under my warranty. Thanks for all the help tacomaworld.

After reading the TSB (kind of hard to read the posted TSB) it sounds like they realized the bearing was causing the problem nothing special. They replaced the entire front diff on mine 2 years and I'm sure the only problem was the bearing so I'm guess they are telling the dealers that they need to replace the bearing not the diff.

There is a replacement bearing now that is sightly different size than the original. New part number.

So I just got my truck back after the dealer having it for 2 weeks to do this. Drove down the road and I could barely still hear it. However after about 50 miles it is doing it once again but sounds a bit different but still the same. Guess I have to go back and find out what they did wrong.

And that's why Im going with the ECGS. That new and improved bearing is just too similar in dimensions. YMMV.

Had the vibrations a week ago. Drive it long enough it would stop. Took to dealer, of course did not do it. Left it there and they drove it later. And it did it. So they had the parts and changed the needle bearing on December 29, got truck back was fine. Four days later I can feel and hear the same noise and vibrations, not as bad though. It only has 6000 miles on it. Will take back to dealer when it gets a little worse. Also, if it happens again I'll try the ecgs bushing. What are guys thoughts in changing the whole front diff and axle to a Dana 30?

Dealership told me they made the recommended fix and if it did not work to call corporate and complain. I talked to him briefly on the ECGS fix and he didn't say he would not install it for me but said if he did he would not warranty it. That makes sense but still won't touch it until I contact Toyota and tell them what is going on.
