Note that of all those we're talking about, only Bowles is a short-timer. Even Arians and Rivera have been at their posts a while, and went in with the understanding from ownership that this was not going to be a two year stint. These are long-term plans, with good GMs and stable environments.

Unlike SOME franchises that I won't get into naming this year.

It isn't enough to have a good coach. You need good GM/personnel work, good cap management (usually front office or under the purview of the GM as well) and a patient owner willing to ride out the rough spots.

You can't just hit a reset button every 1/2/3 years and have long tern success. It simply doesn't work that way in the modern NFL.

 

Lewis seems to have finally.... Yeah, win in the playoffs Marvin! He has yet to do that. Regular season wins mean nothing if you can't win in the playoffs!
Andy Reid... PLEASE!!! He sucks. He has the most regular season wins as an Eagles head coach with how many SB wins, ZERO! That's the ONLY win that matters.
Lewis and Reid belong in the class of coaches such as ; Marv Levy, Marty Schottenheimer, Bud Grant, and Dan Reeves. None of which I would want coaching Philadelphia!
Todd Bowles I do agree as another viable candidate for coach of the year.

I'm not a "raiders fan" but I'm BIG fan of reggie mckenzie and charles woodson, so I kinda root for you guys so long as you aren't playing against my Packers

If the Jets and or Chiefs can win this Sunday, I like Bowles or Reid for the award. I don't think Lewis should get it. The Bengals haven't really won any big games. The Seahawks choked vs them during the worst part of their season, and the Chiefs were also not a great team when they lost to CIN.

 

Regular season wins mean nothing if you can't win in the playoffs, but the Superbowl is the only win that matters. So, by that logic, there is only one good coach a year, and you have to win the Superbowl to be that coach. Right? Or are you suggesting that you must win a Superbowl before your non-superbowl-winning seasons can be considered as evidence in favor of your coaching prowess?


I like that you think Todd Bowles is a viable candidate for coach of the year after saying that Andy Reid sucks and the Superbowl is the only win that matters. FYI Todd Bowls has not won a Superbowl. In fact, his best finish for a season (from this year) is 2nd in the AFC East, he only wins 2 out of every 3 games, and out of the 8 head coaches that he has served under (Andy Reid being one of them) only one has won the Superbowl (Bill Parcells). Keep in mind, Bill Parcells won the Superbowl as head coach for the Giants in 1986 and 1990, whereas Todd Bowles didn't serve under him until 05-06 with the Cowboys. Fun fact, the Cowboys didn't make the playoffs in 2005, and in 2006 they only just clinched the number 5 playoff seed. This resulted in a first round loss, followed by Bill Parcells' permanent retirement from coaching.
