The starter motor wouldn't catch? It wouldn't turn over? Are you saying the engine was not turning when you pushed the button? As in it clicks but doesn't turn the engine and pump the pistons up and down? If this is true, you are describing a different problem

I assume you mean it turns over but will not fire

They mean the engine was cranking and trying to turn over, and because of the issue it will just stay cranking. I believe it will try for about 30 sec but that's a long crank time. I would stop it myself after about 10. But this definitely should not be happening and there is definitely an issue. Sad to see a few others also are experiencing problems, but atleast other having an issue opens the eyes of Toyota. Pretty sure there will be some TsB in the future on this. Still curious as to what exactly the issue is.

    Keep us posted guys

I posted this in another thread and it got no attention. As an update, the no-start issue hasn't happened again. Had the dealer check it out for all the issues mentioned, but it pulled no codes and they couldn't detect a problem.

Also, I learned from a worker at the dealership a new term for describing the engine problem. He said he had a similar issue with his GMC truck and his dealership called it "fish bite". It's the slight feeling someone gets when a fish is hitting their line. I thought it was a great way to describe this "slight feeling". Also, he said they "reset something in the computer", on his GMC, and the problem went away. I do think there may be a fuel delivery issue.

Elimination #1: I have new tires, newly-balanced, now. So it's [engine feeling] not a tire issue.

Definitely the maintenance required soon. I totally missed the initial popup.

Still shouldn't that be in your message center even if you missed the initial warning?

No, it's just a popup when you start the car. You have to exit out of it with the buttons. I would have thought I was going to stay too.

I think he's talking about the "orange" warning light (right cluster), not the center "warning messages" pop-up.

Hmm, maybe I don't have the terminology correct. I have a manual so its key ignition. Turning the key causes the starter motor to run. The engine sputters but does not catch.

Eventually it did and hasn't done it again since. I was pulling out to leave for a several hundred mile road trip with lots of off road and back woods, so it was rather disconcerting. Since it hasn't exhibited it again though I will probably wait for first service to bring it up.

Cranking and turning over are the same thing. Firing and running are what happens after cranking or turning over.

When people say it won't turn over or it won't crank, that's because the battery is dead or has low voltage which causes the starter solenoid not to push the gear onto the fly wheel or the starter motor will not start spinning.

I thought he had a push button and once he pressed it the vehicle just keep continuously cranking for 30 seconds and wouldn't run

Is the fuel pump in a bad spot. Once on an incline the fuel isn't reaching the pump?

Well, my Nissan with 135,000 miles turned over just fine today.....and for the last 135,000 miles. Guess you get what you pay for errrrrrr wait a minute, those things are EXPENSIVE.

All kidding aside, it does seem there are quite a few issue with this truck so far. The engine was built from the ground up, yet people are claiming Toyota for reliability. I'd say this truck has AT LEAST 3 years to prove that. So far, for a $40,000 truck after TTL, it's not looking very good.

Mostly all isolated incidents. Biggest one I see was the hood glue issue.
