Installing LED license plate light on 2016 Tacoma

has anyone here installed LED lights on their new 2016 Tacoma. I have looked at videos but I can't find anything listed on 2016 Models ...since the bumper assembly is completely different, I can't seem to find anything....

 

I could be wrong, but I thought the bed lights and LP lights were LEDS already.
Interior lights were not.
I wanted to switch interior to LEDS but I read that a couple people on here shorted stuff out by doing so.

 

LP lights were not LED. I ordered mine from superbrightleds.com easy swap.

 

Yup. Standard wedge 194 bulb. Pop the light housings out of the bumper (there are release clips you can press with a long screwdriver from behind the bumper if you have the tow hitch in the way. Once you pop them out, it's a simple swap and they snap right back into place. Just feel around and you'll find the retaining clips on each size. They need to be squeezed towards the bulb housing to release and then they just push out of the bumper towards the license plate.

 

Gee, never thought of removing the entire LP lens assembly instead of leaving a lot of hand skin under the tow hitch when I installed my LP LEDs.

 

Having the same problem. I read that the bulb sockets are removed from behind the bumper by rotating counter clockwise? This contradicts the comment about the clips? just trying to figure it out. thanx.

 

Im pretty sure the clear lens doesn't come out I looked at it but I didn't want to gouge it up prying on it. Did you take the lens off?

 

Yeah the lenses don't come out from what I see.

 

If you look underneath/behind the bumper, you can see the LP light assembly. I just twisted it counterclockwise and it popped right out. Took me less than a minute to replace both once I figured that out.

any suggestions on install??? i can't fit my meat paws to turn it clockwise... i guess I'm gonna try popping the lenses out

 

I went to Superbrightleds.com and it shows two options.. One is the standard wedge bulb 194 and the second option is CAN Bus bulb. Which one do we need?

 

A buddy of mine gets his 10yr old kid to do stuff like that when he can't fit his hands in somewhere. haha. Find a neighborhood kid and give him a coke if he can do it.

I wonder if it would be to bright for the back up camera

 

Not at all. I have LED license plate lights from diodedynamics.com. Plenty bright to see the plate at night and they don't have that ugly yellow hue like incandescent lights do. And the back up camera is still really clear.

 

The socket twist out of the reflector assembly. The reflector assembly has clips on it that can be reached from under the bumper squeeze then inward with a long screw driver and push out makes swapping the bulbs a snap.

 

I installed the Amazon LED interior kit, it came with LP lights. Laid under the rear bumper and swapped them in a few minutes. Tight squeeze, but it's not too difficult.

 

I've read all the threads above, so the final conclusion is squeeze the tabs and turn counterclockwise? or squeeze and push out? I have replaced all lights on my 16 with LEDs and last on my list is the LP, I am going to have to get my kid to reach up and do the task because Toyota really left no room at all.
