To Taco or not to Taco, that is the question?

I'll call my sales rep and see if I can get it. They actually recommended the aftermarket one that they installed as it had a further range, works with the original key fob (from what I read) and was $200 cheaper. $500 vs $700. I thought about installing one myself, but a friend of mine installed one and it took him a day and a half. I don't know jack about vehicle wiring, I've installed a couple of stereos and that's about it (just installed one this Christmas for my son) and with this having the electronic remote key to start I figured it would be even more tricky because you're going to have to bypass that and the need to depress the brake pedal to start and what not so I didn't want to risk it. Some things are worth paying someone else to do if you don't know what you're doing and have absolutely no foundation to build off of for knowledge. That's me in this case.

    I'll follow up.

One BIG question I need to know. Just how hard is it to get in & out of a 16. The reason I ask, my back went out today, not real bad, but bad enough. This is when I appreciate the ease of getting in/out of the CR-V, although it was somewhat difficult today. It's seats suck which doesn't help my back one bit.

Thanks for the help. I would go for an aftermarket one if it uses the OEM fob.

I have a problem back and find the Tacoma treats it better than my BMW 3-Series, especially the getting in and out.

One BIG answer...how do you expect us to answer that question for you? Seriously, we are all different shapes and sizes, so the only way to answer your question is to get your ass to a dealership and see for yourself. Honestly, kind of a ridiculous question.

Not really. But salt eats all steel.I do not see GM recalling any frames on the GMT 800 models.Or the bodies that rust fast.A friend of mine has a 2003 GMC 2500 with a bad frame and may be scrapped if the frame shop can't reinforce it.

I have yet to see a 2nd gen Tacoma with body panel rust here in WI.I have seen full size trucks from all the big 3 that have rust holes in them,up to 2009 MY.I am sure the frame is not that far behind.

The question was not unreasonable and in any case, there is no need to be so rude!

Here again we run into what I've seen some others complain about. I was planning to go look at a certain truck wed. In the meantime I asked for some pics of it to look at. Well guess what it's not even there yet. These salesmen are idiots. They say sure I'll go & take a few pics for you & it's not even there. I worked at car lots when I was younger & this kind of thing just would not have happened. It would have been all the same if I had made the 2 hour trip.
:annoyed: So lesson learned Confirm it's there!

Question WAS totally unreasonable! How can we know what your body shape, size, weight, tolerances, preferences are?! It's like saying will these pants fit me? Only you know the answer when you try them on for yourself!

I'm 6'2" tall, 39 years old, 190lbs and have had a double discectomy and double hemi-laminectomy, so I know what a bad back is, but still don't think my personal opinion of seat comfort would help. You have to get your own ass into the seat and figure it out for yourself.

Trying to stay on topic here. I went and looked at the new Canyon, All Terrain. I must say, it one nicely appointed truck. All the bells and whistles you guys are bitching about that the Taco does NOT have. When I did the "build and price" thing on the GMC website, it still totalled $40k as does the TRD Crew Cab similarly equipped. However, many more creature comforts like dual power seats and nicely appointed cockpit with things like carbon fiber panels etc. The one I saw on the lot with the "All Terrain" package was stickered at $36k. It did. Ot have the long bed or Bose audio.

Now before you all jump on me for being a heretic, i would like some comments re the off road comparison of the Z71 4x4 and the TRD OR. My goal is to find a mid size truck (compromise) that will replace both my Sierra Ex cab and Jeep Wrangler. I think its a given that the comfort aspects, mileage and power are in favor of the Canyon and reliability and resale are in favor of the Taco.

I have driven both GM trucks and the new Taco, and I love them both...way better than my 2013 SR5 4x4 taco. I can give you some ups and downs of both trucks, but could you also give me some more info of your needs. Example: 4 full doors cab or the extended/access cab? Do you plan on off-roading regularly or rarely.
Tacoma can be loaded IF you get the 4-full doors (including a moon roof, JBL w/ sub-woofer & 440W amp...sounds way better than GM's Bose sound, and Qi cordless phone charging to name a few). Loved GM's power seats and take off speed/torque..that thing gets up and goes! However, during my test drive, the Canyon's all-terrain had some "slop/slack" in the drive line linkage (unexplained), and I learned it's only available in 4 colors (red, black, silver, dark grey). Tacoma's AC power outlet in the bed and push button start is awesome (no key!...touch door handle to lock/unlock). Taller people will be frustrated with the Taco, especially w/ moon roof that lowers the ceiling another inch.
Tacoma's have all BLUE dash/button lights that are beautiful, while the canyon's have red/white colors that didn't impress as well. GM can put in factory remote start...but honestly, I never used the one in my 04' Silverado. Canyon all-terrain has special interior seat/dash color in black, red, carbon fiber that is really cool! but, the Chevy's Z71's has special interior seat/dash in gray, light-blue, and black that is ugly. Tacoma's tight turning radius is really impressive.
I could go on and on...so hopefully I've given you a few things to think about. For me, it all came down to money....Toyota gave me way, way more money for my truck/trade than GM...thus my payments were reasonable.

Okay, thanks. I want to replace my 2003 Sierra EX cab and my 1998 Jeep Wrangler with a Mid size 4x4 truck. I want the ability to tow an enclosed 6x10 trailer wih a full sized Harley or other toys. So 6-7000 lb towing is more than adequate I also want to keep the ability to get to some remote places in the desert and mountains of Arizona. Im not into rock climbing or towing big boats or bull dozers. But I have been spoiled by my Sierra with a comfortable ride. The old stock Wrangler is awesome off road but I cant haul much gear with it. I expect to compromise a bit but im hopeful that the tech advances since 1998 and 2003 can keep me in the game by fulfilling both needs. I dont want to get into a big mod project as I have a number of other things that allow me to wrench away to my heart's content. In fact I need to seriously thin the herd when it comes to my toys.

Isn't max towing for Tacoma 3500? Your towing desires/needs eliminate that right out of the bag. And depending on how you equip it payload is roughly 1200 to 1600. Towing and hauling is like 23 on the list of things Tacoma owners are looking for I read somewhere.
