Lets say you had an option to get a 4 door short bed mid sized truck but all you had to choose from was a 2 wheel drive 2.7L automatic SR5 or a fully loaded '16 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X or a '16 Chevy Colorado Z71. Would you still choose the Tacoma or be a traitor and take a Nissan. Lets assume your the average pickup truck driver and you like the idea of having 4WD and the power of a V6 or diesel to get up those steep hills and haul/tow stuff. Would you still take the Taco? MSRP for SR5 is $27k, PRO-4X is $30k and Z71 is $38k. However, that is the not fully loaded price for both the Nissan and Chevy. Add all options geared towards off road, towing and comfort and they push $35k and $45k respectively.

Why not look for a 4x4 V6 Tacoma? I would personally not buy a 2x4 four cylinder, regardless of manufacturer.

Why would you limit yourself to the 2.7/2 wheel drive Taco? Of the options you listed I'd take the Nissan.

You don't have any other option but the 4cyl, 2wd sr5.

If your considering to pay 38k for a z71 why would you not consider a v6 taco?

Superbase models are meant to show up on flyers to lure people in. I'd get a 4 banger 2x4 if I was retired, but I'm 31 and I want power and tech. I'd go for the Unimog for sure!

For this scenario we're assuming the 4cyl, 2wd sr5 is all that there is.

There was a 4x4 auto 2.7 Taco on the dealer lot yesterday for around 25-26K. Sure beats a SR5 2wd model for 27.

I second the pro4x. If the other 2 vehicles you're considering are the "offroad" models like z71 and pro4x, the 2wd taco will be a huge disappointment. Not because of the motor or trans, but because of the lack of 4wd.

Why are you looking at a top of the line GM, but bottom barrel toyota? You need to change the GM to 2.5 2wd

It's more an issue of the drive line. I would never buy a two wheel drive truck or SUV. I would certainly consider a four cylinder diesel in 4x4.

I suppose if I had to chose between the three in your scenario, I would go with the Nissan.

Nissan for sure. I kinda dig those Pro4X trucks.

True lol I honestly don't really consider resale when I buy vehicles. I'd still pick the nicely optioned 4x4 Nissan over the 4x2 Yoter and the Chebby.

Just saw 2000ish 4wd Nissan for sale in good shape for $2500. A Toyota is still over $10k

And I respectively have to ask what kind of a moron pays over 10k for a 15-16 year old vehicle. I don't care what the make - dumb move.

    I would get the Nissan.

The 4 banger Toyota will not hold its value. Trust me I know. People want v6 double cabs.
