Wow. They weren't messing around. If that happened in the US. The guy would be on trial for 10 years and probably get off with some plea deal.

(CNN) -- Two people were executed Tuesday in China for their part in a tainted milk scandal that killed at least six babies and sickened about 300,000 others, state-run media reported.
Zhang Yujun was executed for endangering public safety and Geng Jinping was executed for producing and selling toxic food, the Xinhua news agency said.
The tainted formula came to light in September 2008, after several babies fell ill from drinking formula that contained melamine. Melamine is commonly used in coatings and laminates, wood adhesives, fabric coatings, ceiling tiles and flame retardants. Some Chinese dairy plants added the chemical to milk products so they would appear to have a higher protein level.
The tainted milk caused kidney stones and urinary tract problems in hundreds of thousands of children.
The 22 Chinese dairy producers that made the formula have offered compensation to victims' families.
In all, 21 people were tried and sentenced in January for their roles in the scandal, Xinhua reported. Among them, Zhang and Geng were sentenced to death, and most others received at least 15 years in prison.

Well. That is a little different issue. Putting industrial chemicals in milk in order to make it look like it has more protein that is does is a little different than an engineering mistake.

China is a better managed country than the US and has been for some time. Wierd how a communist country knows more about capitalism than we do. Truly sad.

If there were more accountability in this country do you think those engineer would have designed a crib with a cheap plastic bracket?

Maybe we should send the 9-11 terrorists to China for trial instead of New York. Forget that idea. We should just execute them now. Bullets are cheap.

I agree with the part about the bullets, they are so damn cheap.
I kinda wish we would do that with our death row inmates, and do it in about a year instead of waiting 10-20+ years.

There is a difference between an engineering flaw and intentionally causing harm.

When designing ANYTHING you cant 100% be sure every scenario has been safely covered. Pouring melanin into milk to make the nitrogen count higher is knowingly doing something that will cause harm.

Do you think the people that built the world trade center should be on trial because it was designed to take multiple hits by airplanes without falling over?

Im sure people have been killed by strangulation by life jackets. Sure its tragic and the engineers should be fired and reputations be ruined but its not the same intentional harm that the melanin fiasco caused.

But then cribs would become so expensive that people lower down the income bracket couldn't afford it. Cheap plastic parts have to be used to keep costs down. Normally, this isn't an issue, but in this case there was an engineering mistake. Someone wasn't knowingly making a design change that they knew could/would kill people. In the case of the milk, they knew what they were doing.
