I had my 2014 out west this summer and i was shocked at how many of the roads showed up on the map. Most of the offroad trails and dirt roads even appeared, but I did have to zoom in almost to the max to see most of them.

My only gripe on the nav is that the cursor is a bit slow on the refresh. If I rely solely on the cursor location when looking for a turn I will usually pass it up! Navigation is great but it will not replace common sense or awareness of your surroundings.

LOL at the people who actually pay thousands extra for a NAV system in a car. The Nexus, iphone6, galaxy in your pocket is better and much faster. I speak an address into my Nexus 5 and it pops up dead accurate in 2 seconds, gets me around accidnets and slowdowns, and I don't have to waste a Saturday like a dumbass at the dealer to update it.

Sorry, forgot Toyota just packs useless junk into packages and charges you a shitload. You can get any option on a Ford, like a locking rear diff on a cheap model f-150. Want diff locked Tacoma, you'll need to get a fully loaded TRDOR.

Enjoy your nice "no extra cost" NAV system.

I know it's hard to fathom in this day and age but not everyone has a smart phone to rely on either.

Yes, but you need that locking diff in the Ford on a nice sunny day in the middle of the city on flat ground.

like everything tech, its not perfect. i have no experiance with any aftermarket gps radio combo but i am more then happy with the Entune unit. i might punch someone at the dealer that wants to charge for an update in the future but that wont be for awhile.

My wife and I just got home this evening from Canada. We took a weekend trip to Toronto. Used the Garmin so we could use it while in motion for site seeing. After crossing into Canada we put the Garmin away and used the Navi in the truck cause the Garmin was taking us the wrong direction.... We had Zero issues with the Tacoma Navi in Canada or in the US once we crossed back over.

Happy with mine. The test will come when I hit Seattle next summer. I will have my Garmin with me as backup. I am going to get my dealer to adjust the map so it reads with the arrow moving up instead of sideways.

    Take Care

Truth, but it certainly isn't as safe as many factory systems.
I'm a huge technophobe, but what I'd like to see is a second gen bluetooth that can transfer that map from your iPhone onto a cars "nav" screen - or a HUD. Until then, trying to balance your phone, look at it in your cupholder, or using a ghetto phone holder dash stick on is as good as you'll get. I'll take the factory Nav if I truly don't know where I'm going.

Considering I can mirror my phone's screen to my television, my PC, my laterptop and to my tablet, I'd be happy just to have an app that let me mirror it to my dashboard.

Trip home? Built-in wanted to take me 40 miles/45 minutes out of the way and wouldn't dynamically update the routes. An hour into the drive, we finally reset everything and it grudgingly accepted that I didn't want to go 40 miles out of our way to use the interstate.

I use Google Maps or Waze on my iPhone, which sits very securely in a slim Airframe mount on my left center vent. Far from ghetto, and more accurate and reliable than any factory nav unit I've ever used.

How is it not as safe? $20 dash-mount and the problem is solved. Viewing nav just above your gauge cluster on a color 5.5" screen is great, and arguably better than even a HUD unit at that rate (the resolution and detail really sucks on a HUD)

I just wish they would use android auto or apple carplay instead, it would be so much better.

No need to talk to your dealer. Just tap the compass in the top left corner of the screen. That is what toggles between North-Up and Direction Traveling-Up.

edit: I guess we need to consider that the SR and SR5 use Scout App Navigation paired through the phone, while the TRD and Limited models use an integrated nav system. All of us may be talking about two different things.
