    TEST: (2016)
    1) From dead stop, shift into D.
    2) Drive forward enough to engage everything. Slow, but assertive. 10 - 20 feet is plenty. Stop
    3) Shift into R, then step on the gas, not aggressive, but assertively. Again, same distance is fine, enough to engage everything.
    4) Repeat 1-3

Listen for a "clunk" sound in the rear drive line. More noticeable in reverse than forward, but both directions. Sounds like a worn universal, but shouldn't be, as the truck is new. Can almost feel it, but its more of a noise. Might be in the third member.

Note: the truck drives perfectly otherwise. No vibrations, other noises, etc. Just what's described above.
Happens when warm as well as cold.
I have performed searches on the matter.

    Anyone?

Unless you personally grease your zerks; who knows how much lube is in there?

I don't see any sign of grease having been purged through, after assembly...
Fuckers didn't put any caps on either...

I thought I had replied to this thread but I guess there's another!

My 16' dcb 4x2 does the same thing. I back out of the driveway in reverse with no issues, go into D and there's a good 3-5 seconds after going into D it doesn't go into gear. If I don't pay attention, it can really cause a hell of a clunk.

My '68 FJ40 has 13 or 14 as I recollect. Numerous on the steering rods, dampers, etc.. SR5 has minimum of 4, each end of each drive shaft.

axel wrap..... Typical of a Tacoma. It happens on the road if you stop quickly and then when you release the brake to start up it unwraps the torque stored in the real leafs.

I see grease zerks on the u-joints at front and rear of the driveshaft. I'll shoot some grease in them in the morning and see if that helps. I don't think what I'm hearing is axle wrap. I can put a wrench on the u-bolts and make sure they're tight.
