Sometimes safe to assume, if you can justify the assumption, but there are definitely bad assumptions. Right now you just have unjustified or poorly justified assumptions ... Maybe good enough for you, but not enough to make a believer out of myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are so many factors in test like this that really don't make a single test comparable to another. Driver, air temp, surface conditions, etc.

Show me the test where it runs 6.2 or faster and then we're talking. Till then it's just bullshitting.

Ok If I not bat shit crazy and cant read, the 3rd Gen cost and options thread says these can be had in the MT. I can't get the Toyota site to let me build one without a Auto.

The Toyota build site only lets you build something they are presently scheduled to build. This will become more obvious if you change colors.

Thanks for this info. I had been trying to figure out the least expensive 4WD manual transmission (and a 6' bed) possible. I currently drive an '87 Toyota pickup so having power windows, power door locks, a CD player, air conditioning and a cup holder (not to mention a fuel injected engine and ABS) will make even the most basic model seem like a huge upgrade.

MSRP for an Access cab SR 4 cylinder MT is $24,010. I was considering getting a V6 but it looks like the only way to do that is to upgrade to a TRD sport which puts the MSRP up to $34,380. If I didn't insist on a manual there are more options. Seems like Toyota thinks the vast majority of their customers want automatics. Be interested in seeing if they offer V6 manual transmission on their lower end models at some point.

The Toyota build site is also area specific. Try changing your location to a different state, or someplace 500 miles away if you live in a small state.

It still may only show certain colors, and certain options, so you may have to try several states to build just what you want, and get any "idea" as to the MSRP.
If you want an allocation built close to your specs, you will have to go into a dealer and see if they are interested in doing it for you; this process can take 6-8 weeks or more, so some dealers do want to do it as they want to sell what they have on the lot now, or what may be coming in in the short term, not what will be sent to them at some time in the future. Basically how an allocation works is they swap out a truck that is scheduled to be sent to them in 6-8 weeks with your "custom" build. Toyota, of course has to agree to build a truck close to what you want, with none of the fluff you don't want. :)

An interesting thing I learned while going through this is that all model numbers for MT trucks end with odd numbers, and Autos end with even numbers.

I was almost 35 when I bought my first auto. Glad I had it when I dislocated my left ankle. Autos are superior in snow, mud, and towing. If I bought a sports car I would definitely have a manual but not in a truck and not in DFW traffic. I had no problems with hills. I had a manual when I lived in Morgantown, WV..

Did basically the same thing to my left ankle in a motorcycle wreck had nothing but a manual to drive. It was a struggle but managed by using a walking cane to push the clutch on starts and stops and floating the gears for the rest. Houston traffic was a pain but I still would not give up my manual. As far as autos being superior in mud, snow and towing I'd have to say that all depends on the capability of the driver. I have always felt just the opposite siding with the manual being more suited as well as giving the driver more control.

I'm looking at getting a 2016 4x4 dc sport hopefully in manual. Question I have for you 3rd gen manual people: Does it have the keyfob and pushbutton start? I spoke to a salesman on the phone and they couldn't give me an answer. Go figure.

No, it is key ignition. I think because it comes with the clutch start cancel button.

Negative. I wouldn't want one either, in the auto I believe you need your foot on the brake to push the button. I don't see how you could beat the programming to bump start a manual with push button, or a rolling start in neutral, or use the starter to move you with clutch start cancel

    Forgot about that button.

I am curious as to how a push start would work without an actual key. I wonder if it's been done.

Only thing I find a little odd about the new 6 MT is that if I am going down a hill in 6th gear at around 50 mph ( if I just got on an off ramp) it doesn't want to come out of 6th gear easily. I almost have to force it. With my 1st Gen, I could take it out of gear without even using the clutch in 5th gear at 50mph. Maybe the transmission just needs to break in, but it shifts really smooth at higher RPM's.

You might want to get that checked if it doesn't loosen in the next few hundred miles (not sure how many miles you have). 6th for me has been butter smooth since getting the truck.

I have been able to rock a auto out of numerous spots where a manual would need a tow. Hit a mud hole in the wrong gear in a manual and you will be calling for help.

I have about 700 miles on the truck so far. It only happens when slowing down. I will see if it improves in the next few hundred miles.

Manuals don't come with the smart key/push button start.

Smart keys are just making people lazy just like automatic transmissions.
