    I bought a Hybrid. :anonymous:

Kidding aside, the best mod you can do to improve mileage is modifying your right foot's behavior. Keep shifts under 2K, coast whenever possible, and you will see an improvement.

Buy an ultragauge and have the instant MPG and TPS readings on all the time.

I get 50 more miles to the tank this way

I would say probably the best mod would be buying small lightweight tires...that and driving like a old person.

Along with the lighter wheels/tires, keeping the truck as light as possible helps also. Meaning, carry as little as possible in the truck. You probably don't need snow chains in the back during summer, for example.

If you're looking for a good lightweight tire that is also a good performer (rain/snow/offroad), I recommend Hankook Dynapro ATMs. I have 265/70/17s on my truck currently and they are only 39 pounds each, which is pretty light for a truck tire.

warm air intake in the winter months!

but seriously.... other than driving nice, there are not any mods that will help you out significantly.

Well, to be fair, that's not a truck tire. It's a P rated, passenger tire.

One can never have too many light bars.
There's no revolutionary product out there no matter what the ads say. Make sure your spark plugs are changed every 30K, keep tires property inflated, keep a strict oil change schedule and make sure the air filter is clean. Some people say that premium gas delivers better gas mileage although the supporting data is questionable at best.

    Def works:
    Michelin makes good LRR tires.
    Watch the right foot.
    Time traffic lights.
    Keep rpm under 2k always.
Accelerate as if you have a rack of wine bottles in the bed.
Carry as little weight as possible in truck

    Jury's out:
    CAI
    Free flowing exhaust
    Shorty headers

    Get Experimental:
Fab a lightweight belly pan to streamline the undercarriage.

The mpg's on the Tacoma - is what it is. I didn't expect more that I get, so I'm not disappointed. Otherwise, see above.

Plan your route, especially for work commute or other frequent traveling. I hate rush hour and stop and go traffic. Learn best routes with least number of lights or better traffic light sequencing. Keep tires 1-2 # above door sticker.

Regular maintenance, synthetic fluids and a light foot on the gas pedal come first to mind.

I started using this "snake oil" in the Taco and noticed after a couple fill-ups the mileage went up about one MPG. $10 a quart at Wallyworld and get five uses per bottle.
I have used it in all my small engines (ie: lawnmower, trimmer, chainsaw etc) for years but just recently started using in the truck.

Gas is as cheap now as it will ever be. Floor it and drive the snot out of it while you can.

If you got to worry about what it costs, then you can't afford it.

Speaking strictly as "an old person", that works better than any single thing you can do to get mileage! I routinely have 80-year old couples blow past me on the highway, waving and jesturing for me to get the hell outta their way!

2011 DCSB auto, 265/75/r16 lrC Duratracs and I average better than 20mpg in normal driving (mix of city/highway)

As well as "light tires", a light right foot does wonders for mileage.

I don't think I've ever revved that high in mine. Of course, my kid says I "drive like an old grandpa."
