    Hey guys,
I got a lot of great advice regarding Winter Driving, and the different drive modes for my Tacoma from a recent thread, so now I have another question, this one regarding headlights.

Wen I bought the truck, it had an aftermarket Pioneer Navi/CD/DVD set up in it. Something tells me it was a DIY install due to the way it is all put together, and I have a feeling that maybe they did something wonky with the headlights. So here's what I've got going on (with pictures!):

Ok, when I turn the head lights on to this position:
    20160104_135244.jpg

    I get this:
    20160104_135256.jpg
Regular Low Beam Headlights. However, I notice that I don't have any Parking Lights. That's not right...right?

    Now, when I push this:
    20160104_135307.jpg

    I get this:
    20160104_135315.jpg
Low Beams, and Fog Lights...still no Parking Lights...

Then when I engage the High Beams...
    20160104_135401.jpg
No fog lights...they turn off, even though the button that turns them on/off is still on...Is this normal for High Beam/Fog Light combo? I've never had a truck with fog lights before.

Lastly, when I set the lights to this:
    20160104_135427.jpg

    I get this:
    20160104_135419.jpg
Nada. No lights what so ever. The fog light switch is turned ON and the lights are in Low Beam setting, but I have no parking lights, nothing.

So I figure the guy who installed the Pioneer Audio before me must have crossed something somewhere.

I usually drive with my low beams on all the time, and I turn on the Fog Lights for night driving (We have a TON of animals out here in MT, and those fog peepers REALLY help!). When I have the headlights ON the Pioneer Navi screen gets BRIGHTER, when they are off, it darkens. Usually, I would assume it would be the other way around, darker at night so it isn't blinding you, right? Another thing that tells me he installed something cockeyed.

Anyone can help me on getting this straightened out? I am happy to take pictures and walk step by step. I am handy (remodeled and restored a 1890s house mostly on my own) but I haven't done much modern truck work. I know how to work on a 1979 Ford Bronco...but this is a wholly different animal.

    Thanks!

Only thing unusual is the parking lights don't work. Everything else is working as it should with the lights.

Fogs turn off with hi beams.

Middle position on the stalk is parking lights only, so that's why there is no light in that position.

My factory head unit dims with headlights on, but as yours is aftermarket, not sure how it should behave. Have you checked to see if there is a brightness adjustment feature on the head unit? I know in the past I've had a head unit set to be brighter with the headlights on, so it had some illumination to the cab area at night and it was helpful.

Right, that's pretty much what I figured. I first noticed it when deer hunting, and I was trying to get a little light while driving in, but didn't want to use the regular lights. It was totally dark.

So the Fog Lights go off with Parking Lights and High Beams? They only work with Low Beams? That I can deal with...

The question is how do I get those Parking Lights to come back on? Where should I look for the wiring issue there?

Turn Signals work, I checked them all.

    What are DTRLs?

I'd start with putting a new bulb in. They might just be burnt out.

    GENIUS!

I replaced the Headlamps and fog lamps because I had one of each going out...I didn't even think of checking the bulbs on the parking lights...simple solution first, Grasshopper.

When I use my turn signals, the lights in your pic above are the ones that blink. But they do not turn on under any other situation...is that correct?

The ones that are lit up in his picture are the DTRL. On my 2013, they also function as the turn signal flasher when activated as well.

Rad, thanks. So to get the outside amber lights going, I need to go to Napa and pick up some new bulbs.

    Thanks, Rock!

Thanks a lot man. Quick and helpful.

Now...about that Fog Light + High Beam mod...you have a link for that?

You can run a jumper from the marker light to the low side of the turn signal bulb, you will see 2 wires at connecter with a blank. feed wire from marker to blank and you'll have the lows on the signal bulbs working. works great, and looks better.
