So I am still a noob at learning about my tacoma and it's suspension and so on. So please bare with me:bowdown: . My current setup on my 99' 4x4 sr5 is bilstien with toytec coil overs set at 2.5in up front. Rear is bilstiens with AAL. I am running 265/75/16 cooper discoverys currently and want to fit these bfg ko2's 285/75/16. My wheels are 2nd gen trd offroad wheels. I believe from what i can gather they are 16x7, 5.25"backspacing, 32mm offset.20160104_133739.jpg My stock uca's are already tight to my tire and there is signs of them rubbing. I am aware and have been trying my hardest to research on the best way to fit these tires. I plan on removing my mud flaps and doing pinch weld mod.20160104_133625.jpg I am strapped for funds so my best route right now is to install spacers? What would you guys recommend for best spacers? I have read bora and spidertrax are the best. When I took my truck to the 4x4 shop they said my truck is not hubcentric but my wheels are and I could use either type of spacers? (Lug or hub). Confused me there. He told me to use trail gear brand spacers. Anyone have info on those? Also I have no idea on what size spacers to order? From what I "think" I understand about spacers is the bigger you go the more issues/sketchy they are?
Also will putting these bigger tires/spacers on there affect issues with other components...cv axles, balljoints, wheel bearings etc? the way my suspension is set up at 2.5in I was told I have one more 3in setting but if I go up that high my cv's will just blow out and tear? I was just wondering that option as well to possibly get more clearance? I use my truck as a daily driver and do not do any technical offroading. Just fire roads and mellow stuff. I hope I have given enough info to help anyone trying to give me a hand with my issue. Thank guys for any knowledge.:fingerscrossed:

Sounds like you have done your research and most likely already know what you are up against. Too much backspacing to clear the frame and the UCA and not enough pinch weld clearance.

You will have to pound down the pinch weld regardless. How you 'fix' the BS has certainly been discussed on here but you did touch one one point that has destroyed friendships and broken up families.

I will just say that anytime you move the centerline of the wheel outboard, it will have an impact, both on steering and the life of components.

Ya where I am mostly stuck is I want to to get these tires on there before this big snowfall we are expecting and want to order these spacers but am still not quite sure on what size would be best for a reasonable fit with my current set up. My other real wonder is if I need hubcentric or lugcentric with my truck/wheel combo. I have read guys with about 3.75-4in backspace wheel have "ok" clearance so if I am figuring this right I need around 1.25-1.5 spacers with my wheel being a 5.25 backspace? To make up that difference?
As far as the broken friendships and family's...I think you are referring to the debate of the affect spacers put on components? Is that correct @Digiratus From I have learned ideally the best method Is to have the correct wheels with the correct backspacing. But on my bank roll that is not a viable option right now.

well your current setup is equivalent to 32x10.5 (265/75) and you want to go to a 33x11.5 (285/75) so you would need to compensate for the extra width. minimum I would say is 1.5 inch effectively giving you 3.75 BS. but because of the difference in width you would only "move" the tire out 1" total away from the control arm. however by doing that you may end up rubbing the fender and/or pinch weld due to position of the tire/rim in relation to the turning arc

You'll need at least a 1.5" spacer. Get extended thread lugs for the spacers. Id use hub centric since the wheels are hub centric.

Should clear the frame and UCA just fine.

1.25" will work too. But 1.5" I think will look better.

Then just get ready to hammer the pinch weld a lot and you'll be fine.

Thanks @frizzman and @Blackdawg. I think I am understanding this a bit better now with the spacers and backspacing. As far as cosmetic looks... Would you guys know of any certain threads or builds I can see some pics of what a 1.5in spacer and 285/75 combo would look like with my backspacing?? I am a fan of a little bit of stance so just trying to get ideas. Besides the pinch weld would I possibly run into more rub issues if I go to big with spacers? Like for instance a 2in? Thanks again for your input.

The further you push the tires out the more it'll rub the lower fender and you'll have to trim it. I would not do 2". Be Excessive on the wheel bearings.

I can't think of any with 1.5" but @Tonto27 build has 1.25" ones with the same rimes and 285s

So I just contacted Spidertrax to place my order and they said with my truck year and wheel they will not work? He said case I have locking hubs and the wheel is hubcentric?

Right!? No I have auto hubs and I told him that. He said with hub centric wheels and any locking hub they don't work?

Talked to a rep at bora and they explained Spidertrax rep is cluless. They will sell me same size for 5$ bucks more with a warranty and life time insurance if they where to ever fail. Gonna do that I think

That works too. Personally. I don't think there's a huge difference. Got mine through allpro. Never had an issue. But just get what ever you want. They will work.

Ya that's what I figured. Issue I was finding was wheelersoffroad, 4wheelparts.com, and a couple others only carried the 1.25in spacer for my truck so that's why i tried Spidertrax directly ....and then found bora.

we have Giant Eagle grocery stores here. every $50 spent on gift cards (and every $50 spent on groceries) earns 10¢ off per gallon. on certain times you can get 20¢ off per $50 on GC, but only GC, groceries always tally up and give 10¢.

two weeks ago I filled my truck and the 14gal can to get the allowed 30gal and it was free :D (minus the fact I bought the gift cards, which I was going to buy anyway)
