Funny dealership experiences.....

Thanks I have taken a lot of swimming lesson's over the years and no I did not take offense from the idiot comment either it can be tuff on both sides of the drive. Finding quality techs has been a struggle for every dealership across the country for the last five years and there is actually a shortage of good people to hire. You take a gamble on a guy if he don't work out you cut loose before he hurts your customer satisfaction index number. It has forced dealers to go out recruiting techs from other stores and offering a signing bonus and vacation packages and big money. The young guys coming in don't want to put the time in and learn the trade there is a word that they have never heard of APPRENTICESHIP they want big money for no experience out the gate.

 

Chris...I new we had something in commom from the time that you told me about your truck. My stomach turns every time someone touches THE TRUCK. Lucky for me I know a few people at the dealership and the let me look-over-their-shoulder when I want to.

Off the subject, I can't find anyone in DFW that knows how to "adjust/re-arch" the drivers side rear spring in order to allow for the additional weight.

If you don't mind, could you post a new thread about your lift details...I think that your truck has THE BEST stance that I have seen. I would love to copy.

 

you have to blame the auto industry as a whole. the U.S. is the only place where tech are paid in this manner. european techs are on a salary, so they can take their time with your vehicle.

 

X2 i was ignored for like 30mins while looking at a trd sport on a lot here in elkhart so i left went to Southbend got the truck drove back to the first dealer and was like awwwww shoulda coulda woulda..... Asshat!!!! They saw i was 20 something and didnt even give me the time of day now at the one in Southbend i had a sales Woman help me within 5mins and i gave them the business (paid $5,000 cash on the truck that day)

 

exactly! maybe its just me but i always ask for the old oil filter when someone besides me does the oil chang.lol ........ but i'm paranoid

 

My grandpa and grandma always had cadillacs as their 'goin to town' car. Once, when I was at their place they decided they needed a new car as the old one was getting on. We all piled in one of his work pickups and drove to the caddy dealer. Gramps was wearing dirty bibb overalls and gram was in an old house dress, they were working folks is all. Well, we couldn't get a salesman to even look at us, they were all busy with obviously more well healed and successful people....these hicks probably were just there to see how the "other half" lives. There was ample time for them to pick the model and color they liked and after an hour or so a salesman finally asked if he could help them. Gramps said "we want that one" pointing to one of the models on the floor, the guy kinda smiled and said he'd have to sit them down and qualify them for a loan. Gramps then told gram, "pay the man Queenie" at which she pulled a big roll of 100's out of her apron and started counting out the money. The guy's jaw dropped to his chest....it was a hoot. You can't always judge people by their clothes

 

haha! its cool hearing stories from the other side of the fence. Peronally, toyota of greenville has be nothing but great to me. i have no issues with anyone there, mechanics or otherwise. however, when i went up there to buy my truck, i had to argue with the salesman about what transmission i wanted. it went something like this.... (keep in mind he already knew i wanted the V6 DC)

Me: I'd like the 5 speed automatic

Him: so you want the automatic or the stick?

Me: The automatic, i just said that

Him: The automatic is a 4 speed, the stick is a 5 speed

Me: Thats in the 4cyl, i want the V6. the V6 transmission has a 5spd auto or a 6 speed manual

Him: you're thinking of the Tundra, it has a 6spd.

Me: No, the tundra has a 6spd auto, the tacoma V6 has a 5 spd auto.

Him: No i'm pretty sure you confusing it with teh tundra, the tacoma has a 4 speed auto.

Me: i have been researching this truck for months now, i know what each model has, do we need to get a set of keys so i can show you?

(we get a set of keys and go to a V6 DC auto)

he unlocks the truck and we look at the shifter.

Him: see, the auto only goes up to "4"

i just looked at him and pointed to the "D" on the shifter box

Me: "D" is a gear too, it stands for "overdrive", thats teh 5th gear

Him: oh

i guess you cant expect all the salesmen to know everything about every car on the lot but when you have a customer that has done his research dont get in a full blown argument with him, take the time to find out before you look like an idiot

 

Damn the same thing happened to me, most of the sales person dont know the product at all, i could ask her a lot of questions and she would only go like , oh sir, look we added 2 extra cup holders on the door.... hehe, that always happens, when i bought my cell phone i did the same a lot of research, so when i came in to pick it up, and asked all this questions the guys didnt knew what i was talking about....

 

yeah i hate that, sales people should have extensive training before tehy are "let loose" on the customers

 

X100! Except after being jerked around & BS'd, it is really hard to ba a nice guy.

If I may digress as well... I'm winding down on a major remodel of my house. JUST because you use a "liscensed contractor w/ 15 years of experience" does not mean they will do a acceptable job..AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!

It seems Quality, Care & Concern, going the xtra mile, etc... is not a common benchmark these days. Having said that there are many reputable people out there.

 

The last time I went in for an oil change they neglected to close the hood properly..the only thing holding it closed was that little latch! Thankfully I noticed as I was pulling out of the parking lot!
