I can't bare to read all this.
I used to own Hondas...the quality decline from the late 1990's to now was drastic. I went and looked at a new ?? 2013 Pilot on the dealer floor....it was literally falling apart in the showroom. Door panel improperly afixed, drivers rear sill not attatched and the rear liftgate didn't work right. The dealers response was "it hadn't had its pre delivery inspection". Ok, I get that. Apparently you need to go over everything the factory SHOULD have done right after you get it and before you flog it...but to put it on your showroom floor?
And seriously Honda...WTF is with your stereos? absolute SHIT.
When the Ridgeline gets a frame and ditches those womanly hips....I may let a friend buy one. my useless, old man rant is now over. continue. :p

I agree, towing that much weight with a truck that can barely handle it is just asking for problems. It's also a lot safer too. You can get better towing mid sizes than the diesel Colorado for cheaper.

There is nothing that they could do to make me buy one of those ugly recycled washing machines. It's like the Chevy avalanche's mini me.

I am well aware of the RL's strengths, weaknesses and maintenance. Just as I am with Tacoma's. Certainly not here bashing Toyota nor am I saying the Honda Ridgeline is great or better.

I think the only thing Honda could do to get my business ever again is invent a time machine and use it to undo the $1800 repair bill they saddled on me when I had to replace a cracked engine block on my 8th gen civic, **in spite of there being a TSB about it**, just because it happened >3k miles after my warranty expired (even though there was documentation of coolant loss before the warranty expired).

Man, I'm not going to type a thousand word essay to explain the whole situation to you when the bit in parenthesis explains it enough. It was a documented problem (had been to the shop for a coolant leak) before the warranty expired. They didn't discover the cause until after the warranty expired, but would have if they would have checked TSBs. I don't care who you are, leaving a customer up the creek like that is bad business. And if you think that kind of thing is ok, I don't ever want to do business with you.

Legally, yeah, they didn't have to do anything. And legally, yeah, I can choose to never buy a car from them again. The end.

A lot of times they will good will something like this. If you make a big enough stink about it at the dealer or call American Honda direct. I wouldn't really see an issue since you had documentation before hand. If you didn't have that then I would say your shit out of luck. But an engine block is more than $1,800 so did they end up covering most, or what happened?

I don't really know what your problem is, man. This thread is about "what Honda would have to do get your business" I answered the question. Go Troll somewhere else.

The truth is, it was an estimate, not a bill. When they put it in front of me I refused.

And they did offer me a whopping good will amount of half of the cost of a used engine block, I think they would have ended up giving me $600? I don't recall. I was left with the $1800 estimate after their good will offer.

Since I saw what they did as unethical, I reacted in kind. I dumped some alumaseal into the block, stopped the leak, then traded it in.

Edited to add what my faulty memory recalls as the good will amount and to clarify a little.

Yeah sorry. I'm being a jerk. It's sore from riding around in my Turd Gen I guess.

I'm gonna have a beer. That'll probably help me with my posterior pain.

I earned that name from one of our over paid & under worked moderators (probably while sitting on some gay beach in Fiji) who assumed control of my profile & changed it for me.... He thought I was one of his "butties" off a fuck forum & not this TRUCK forum.

It was gay when someone brought up buying a ridge line in a Tacoma forum.... But hell I don't care I'm just here for the free drinks and to watch the flamers in the back corner get in a slapping fight.

We just did an engine block on an 8th gen at 190k, and I'm pretty sure it was under warranty cause it is a bulletin and a manufacturing defect. Sounds like that dealer tried to jip you

I begun turning wrenches on the Honda platforms of the 90's. I have a lot of memories working on them. Brakes, valve adjust, t-belts etc. Etc.

While I agree the quality has declined in them over the last decade and a half indefinitely, so has every other manufacturer. I am not fond of Toyota's quality, what used to be legendary, over engineered and manufactured, is now garbage and just as crap made as every other manufacturer out there. (No I am not a fanboy and don't believe in product loyalty any longer, let your quality speak for itself). With a failed fuel pump at 49K, and possibly what appears to be a rear main seal starting to fail at 58K now I have just about lost faith in the brand. They still do offer the most for what you can buy though.

"They don't build them like they used to." I think this saying applies to every new vehicle out there from every manufacturer these days. They are like women, all nuts, just find the one who's shit you can actually deal with and ride it out while it's good. Lol.
