Finally (!) upgraded from my 1994 Toyota pickup with 300k miles to a slightly used Tacoma Extended Cab 2.7 and wondering if anyone has any recommendations about getting a rear locker installed. Looking for some advice on what type and a shop to do the install. I live in the Seattle area. The 2.7 has the 8'' diff?

    2014 Tacoma extended cab manual 2.7 4x4

    Thanks!

Yea. Arb is going to be the most common set up you'll find

X2 on arb. East coast gear supply can sell you a complete third member ready to bolt in the truck then you send them back your core. Your truck has a 8.4 rear too btw as long as it's a 4x4 or a prerunner and not a 5 lug

+1 on east coast gear supply.

your 4 banger has an 8.4 along with every other 6 lug truck that doesnt have the factory elocker (TRD off road package)

Depends on budget, and how refined you require your driving experience to be.

Right now, I have a Powertrax No-Slip in the rear. It's OK. It's kind of annoying on the street. Anytime you turn right and give it any throttle, it hops a little and drags the tire.

Also, around corners, such as on / off ramps, when you hit the gas, you can feel the truck wanting to go straight. That'll be typical of any mechanical "lunchbox" locker.

Now, I've lifted the truck, and added bigger tires. ECGS is building me a pair of 4.56 Diffs. I'm going ARB front and rear.

I've built, and driven, some pretty hardcore Hotrods. I don't need too much refinement to be happy. That said, I am tired of the mechanical locker in my daily.
    ESPECIALLY, when towing.

BUT, if you want a locker, and you don't want to spend $1500 plus on parts and labor for an ARB, you can install a No-Slip yourself pretty easily for $400-$450. PLUS, you'll need, at least, the small $160 compressor to actuate the ARB air locker / lockers.

If you're doing a re-gear however, there's no additional labor costs to have an ARB installed in the new Diffs while they're being built by ECGS. They also give a discount on the lockers if they're building Diffs for you.

Agreed I had a mechanical locker on my 90 pickup in high school and it was pretty annoying on the street but made a big improvement off-road. On my Tacoma now I have an e locker and love it. Nice to not have it on road. If I didn't get a model with an e locker already I would highly recommend the arb. If it's a little to pricy now I would wait and save up for one
