The title pretty much says it all. I am trying to get ready to head out of town and tried to open my tailgate. It only half released, so I shut it and now the POS pop n lock is now doing nothing. I have tried locking and unlocking it, which does not help.

Anyone have any thoughts?? Please feel free to PM me if you do not want to post how to break into our trucks online.

    Anyone else have this problem??

    Thanks

A good drill and a little patience?

Thats the problem with some security devices, if they're not made up to snuff, or they have a flaw somewhere, they do a great job of keeping everyone out.

I was able to get the bakflip open and so now I am trying to get the tailgate down. I removed all of the TORX bolts but I cannot remove the panels with the tailgate in the up position, and I cannot get the tailgate down to remove the panel ("...quite a catch this Catch 22"). Is there a way to pop the latches on the side of the tailgate from inside of the bed??

    thanks

    Stork

Sometimes my powered Pop n Lock gets stuck and cannot open, then after about a day of driving around I try it again and it opens. After a while I figured that this only happens when someone (like my wife) tries to open it in the locked position.

I finally was able to bend the tailgate top cover back enough to bow out the interior panel so I could get my hand in there and pop the hatch open. I was looking at the Pop n Lock and through normal operation it is backing itself out of the unlocked position. I am going to keep an eye on this but this 5300 might be on its way back to the factory. Thanks for the comments.

my pop n lock is crap...i can open it with anything that slides just into the keyhole...i have so far used: every key on my keyring, various loose change, twigs, cardboard, thumbnail....

tried to return it and the store said it was my fault it broke

My first manual popnlock stopped working after its first winter. It was maintained to with lock graphite & lube but the salt killed from the inside out.

When I put in the replacement lock, I lithium greased the heck out of the mechanism on the inside. This thread is a good reminder to give it another dose before winter sets in.

I spray some WD-40 into the key slot now and then. No problems to date for 3 years knock on wood :D

Haven't had that problem, my only problem is that they seem to break very easy where the two are connected. I went through two locks in about a month and decided it wasn't worth the $ for a something that's cheaply made.

I just noticed the Pop N Lock ad at the end of this thread... It just sits there taunting me.

I've had mine for about two years. Not one problem with it. You guys seem to be in the minority around here.

Yeah uh, that's bullshit but nice try.

My POS from Pop & Lock (Model 5300)has been installed only two weeks and now unlatches on the right side. No clear solution yet, short of drilling a small hole through the plastic bed liner to force the latch with a screw driver. This product is a real nightmare!

I took the panel off and sprayed white grease, then I sprayed lock ease into the key slot. I never had a problem but with all the posts about it I figure better safe then sorry. I also sprayed all the other hinges and locks while I was at it.
