I go with the cheapo holder and it works fine. It clips onto the vent and still holds my big ol' phone.
I have two because I use one for my actual phone and my old iPhone which is my iPod. Plus with it being on the vent, it keeps my phone from overheating from running GPS, online radio, etc. The clip actually holds my handheld CB radio too, lol.

Haha well they are never all on at once but it's nice to be able to. Bottom left is phone. To the right is for gps. Above that is iPad and to the left is a DIY mount for my CB mic

There is something to be said for focusing on driving rather than distracting gadgets. You know, since other people are using the road too, and most want to get home safely.

I also just bought this one and I love it. It's a terrific method for holding my iPhone and it's less than $15 on Amazon.

I bought my mount on Amazon for about $22. It bolts to the floor using the seat anchor bolt, it adjusts and holds the phone out of the way. I have a ring on the back of my phone so I added two clear bumpers to make the phone sit level. I picked up a cheap cable from Staples and wrapped it around the mount so it's not all over the place. I love it.

There are two available lengths for the mount to suit your needs.

I got me a EasyAcc and mounted it on my deck. Since I did not like the wires hanging all over the place, I added a 3.5 jack and iphone charger. Works well, the mount that I have has a way sticky pad to attach the phone but I also use a metal insert (that I have from another magnetic mount) that keeps the phone attached more securely.

In spite of the fact that I just purchased this, it should probably be noted that, although there is "no cable to plug", there does seem to be a cable that runs from the dock to a USB port, or the 12v outlet?

You're right. I mean that you don't need to constantly plug and unplug your phone while getting in and out of your truck...

No harm, no foul. I understood what you meant but, even on the website, it states "
    NO CORDS
The state-of-the-art docking mechanism requires no cable, no cord, and no plugs connected to your smartphone. (my emphasis)
It's for the very reason that you state above that I decided to purchase but, I'm sure you know, like I know, that some people would be influenced by the "No Cords" statement on the site without paying attention to the following notice and be compelled to buy, and then be pissed off later realizing that it does require a cord connection. Again, no harm, no foul.

LOL so true! I don't about where you live but if I had an iPad mounted there, trying to convince a cop that I wasn't distracted driving wouldn't be a full endeavor.

The longer your head is down in the cockpit, the more rapidly you become a liability.
