There are REASONS to regear, breaking stuff isn't one of them - My truck is super charged, so it's not as lethargic as a stock tacoma, but regearing to 4.88s is also going to drastically change the way the truck drives on the highway, if you daily the truck don't dismiss that... but here's my ONE piece of advice... ready?

Don't do 37s... if i had it to do again I wouldn't. The amount of work and effort required to make them fit properly and the amount of trimming I had to do wasn't worth the extra 1" of tire on either side of the hub. If I had it to do again I'd just do 35s, yes the 37s allow me to do lots of stupid stuff that maybe 35s wouldn't, but I'd have just as much fun on 35s in 99% of the situations I've been in.

    enough to go over stuff
I like to go places and sometimes that means going over things... Seeing how allpros skids are 3/16 and not flat leaves me with broken skids. I have 1/4 and a flat belly now. so now I really wheel. I guess I'm out. Your experience running 37s on stock gears for 20,000 disproves all the transmissions that broke running 35s on here.

That doesn't rub off-road? Looks like it almost rubs just sitting there...

35s would look small with that much of lift though

Oh no it rubs like a mofo - the only way to properly clear 37s on a taco is fiberglass. I don't call it rubbing, I call it self clearancing...

I wouldn't do that much lift, DB lifts are purely for show.

The only broken transmissions I've seen are the manual - which is notoriously fragile. Regearing may help you absorb some of the abuse a manual trans takes, I'll give you that - I know people that have broken them on the stock 31" tires - As for the skids, which skid is it you think isn't flat? the cross member one? If you have skids that are flat with that cross member you have severely impacted your clearance, I'd far prefer to have one reinforced area hanging down than to make skids that are all that low - With that said though I have landed on it more times than I can count and have actually be stuck on it twice with all 4 wheels in the air, I see no way to break that thing.

Incorrect. There are people on 37s who don't rub w/out glass. Fenders are the least of your rubbing concerns.
