Interesting, I wonder if they will offer an option to put this on "older" versions [2016 Tacomas ] of Entune via a software update?
Anything has to be better than the limited number of Apps available on Entune.
WTH can't I put a useful App like Waze on Entune? Why?
Of course, they may lock it down so you are still limited to a handful of mediocre Apps

I love my truck but prob the most annoying thing is the Entune. Toyota should stick to making trucks and leave the software making to the experts, ie Apple. the Enture apps are kind of a joke.

Is this a better choice then Entune, that's offerred in the current Tacoma?

I'm not familiar with the software in these new vehicles or seen the user interface/experience.

I think the ideal situation is to be able to choose if you want the apple or android software installed at time of purchase.

How about these companies stay out of cars in general. I think the best would be as indicated a simple interface standard that will talk between any system and your phone iOS / Android system. They can't get their software to work 100 percent on the platforms they build. Imagine when they have to trouble shoot a hardware vendor issue vs software as we, the consumer, get stuck in between the figure pointing. I have already had it happen in my industry with an XM audio unit that caused major issues on a OEM we sell. Took a year for them to solve after all the arguing that was figured out in the first month. It was a "simple" firmware issue on the XM unit that needed an update. However the 2 companies pointed fingers at each other and we had to deal with the fallout. It wasn't a simple problem like the Xm didn't work, it was killing batteries while the bike was off.

I can certainly see the merits of your perspective. I guess I either want the software people to do the software in the truck, or just give me a dummy terminal in the dashboard with no cpu and just project what ever is on my smart phone. bottom line, I prefer car companies stick to doing cars.

    I'd like that too!

From what I've read the auto manufactures are in constant negotiations with the government (at least in the US market) in keeping the law makers from wanting oversight & regulation or at least limiting it (distracted driving kinda stuff). I think it might be a decent move for Toyota & the rest of the industry to adopt a standard format for the manufactures and consumer. Some auto makers are now using both or one of either android or apple for limited smart for integration...problem is (from my understanding) when you want to switch devices or auto manufacturers the two products may no longer jive....anyone have actual experience with this...?? Of course manufactures will want to put their own spin on & market their own product.

F it, I say phone mirrored on the dash is still cool.
