    Jake that radio is an older model that has come down in price a good bit. It is dual band and 50 watts so that is decent for mobile rig. Does 350 include quality coax and antenna and everything with the radio clean and operational? Not unfair but not a huge steal. Most general license ham operators will be limited to those two bands, the radio face remote mounts which is nice. Icom is a solid company.

    I paid 175 for my single band 65 watt kenwood that has dust protection and shock protection for a sturdy mobile setup with coax and an antenna. Had the wires already and made a small console for it. I used the other hood hinge out for the antenna. I wish it had a remote face to make it more easily accesible. I wish it did aprs as well but then we start talking about feature rich expensive radios.

    You can get going for less than 100 if you want to see how much you b want to invest. Check a baofen uv5r and magnet antenna on Amazon.


    Also to operate you need to take the test and get a ham license. It's easy you are smart and have a decent enough electronics knowledge to pass. They offer it multiple places but you have to do it in person and pay the 15 dollar testing fee

    No. I have a ham radio and have still not taken my test.

    You have to pass the test to get a license to legally operate the radio on certain frequencies in a non emergency situation.

    I'm not simply being a smart-ass:D

    The facts are anyone can buy a ham radio and anyone can operate any radio on any frequency in an emergency.
