Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
Of course resale will be close when less than a year old. Look at 5-10 year old trucks resale value. It will be much more than 1-2% difference. Also, have you checked the issues that GM owners are reporting? What about history of reliability. So far, for me, Tacoma wins 3-0.

    history of reliability
I did, on a 2011 model there is about a 1500 to 2500 dollar difference. (Although the Tacoma did cost about 1k more at the time). Its really not as much of a difference as people want to believe.

history of reliability? you mean the same problems even Tacomas have? Again, any vehicle will have great reliability, IF you take care of it.

I know you stated you don't like the look of the frontier and that is fine. However, the frontier rides very nice, and with the sv value package you can get dual climate control and heated front seats, spray in bed liner, bed extender, tow package for 27,000. I would not go with the GM twins. Tacoma is still on my wish list, but frontier is too.

Yeah I do think Nissan offers the best bang for your buck. I just can't get over the look. Im just not a fan.

Any reason on why GM is out for you?

I went to a local dealership looking to get a firm price after they said they could trade for what i wanted. We agreed on the trade on my 09, this was the salesman. I couldn't get a firm price without a commitment to buy. I said no, i want a price, then i may commit. Salesman offered $1500 lower than what kbb showed. Then he came with the paper for the truck i wanted. Saying it could be sold or they may not trade. I said well what's the price. He was going list, I said no. There comes his mgr asking what i would pay, well i didn't have my act together so what i said they said no, we only have $1500 profit in the truck. I said no & left. They wanted to add door guards, nitrogen & something else for $299. I had already told the rep no i would not pay for that. He said I'll take 1/2 off, they wanted to charge $99 to take the tires off my old truck to put on the new. I have a small scratch on the lf bumper & check engine was on. The light just needs the code reset, they wouldn't do it for free, get those fixed, we may give you more. I walked out.

A 5'x8' trailer is what I pull around, an average size trailer, 3000 weight capacity, way bigger than a bed on a full size 8' truck bed and only weighs 600 lbs empty. Plus, 3000lbs behind you is a lot easier on a truck than 3000lbs in a bed. Plus, can't put even half that weight in the bed of the Taco's.

Once again, I have multiple rent houses. Sometimes I am at one, stove goes out in another. I'm not going to go home (I live 20 mile from the closest rent house) hook up a trailer then drive back.

Ugh.. This is like pulling teeth. Believe it or not, people DO have a need for a light duty pick up.

I can see where it would suck running around always pulling a trailer. Zero fun to do it in Baltimore City. When I had a pool business, even if I figured I could get away with the truck, I always took the box trailer with all my stuff in it. Never knew when you'd get a call on the road or needed that one part you didn't think you'd need.

But I found your solution. Light duty, crew cab, nimble, good mpg. Ladies/Gentlemen, behold! The Toyota Dyna 100!

I hear ya. Same with me, three kids and I always find myself taking the minivan with the kids. It's hard for me to keep it clean, because as clean as it is.........even with big tires, clear glass, and entertainment system....it's still a minivan.

My wife also occasionally tries to run over things she doesn't have clearance for. Not good on the lowered space wagon. Nothing that would damage a forunner. Just snow, curbs, and an occasional stick or two. Plus, I wouldn't have to drive in a disquise.

It's like the tiny version of the company Isuzu at one of my old jobs, diesel, manual, crew cab, 4x4, utility bed, and full of awesome. I thought "hey, I could go for one of those as a personal vehicle", then I priced them out...

Consumer reports never puts out reliability stats on the first year but predict the twins to be a black dot, well below average.

You're on a tacoma forum, so this will probably be considered blasphemy, BUT honestly your needs sound like a Canyon would fit best. More comfortable ride, more room in the back seat, better towing, better gas mileage. I think the main reason to select a Tacoma over the twins is mainly off road potential and if you like the look of them (interior/exterior) more than the Canyon/Colorado.

Kelly Blue Book ranked the canyon third in this year's resale value awards...behind only the tacoma and 4 runner, but it is not that far off. Reliability is all opinion at this point. No real data for anybody to stand on (I don't put much stock in the people that owned one GM 15 years ago and had problems). CR rated it as a black, but all their sub rankings paint a different picture.

There is a site named longtermqualityindex, which gives you an idea on how well vehicles age.Covers engine/transmission and powertrain reliability.Good read if you are looking at buying used. The previous GM twins were rated average,Tacoma was rated above average.4runner and Land Cruiser were almost impeccable.Land Rover Discovery was a fail.

after a few months of going back and forth. After having both a Canyon and a Tacoma for their 24 hr test drive, I finally decided that the Canyon is a better fit for me. More cab room (front and back), MUCH quieter ride, better MPG, interior felt more modern, after a couple of 24 hr test drives I felt myself thinking the Canyon was newer every time I jumped in. Tacoma just felt old and outdated. Lastly, there was a LOT more power in the Canyon. Tacoma was obviously on the slow side and got about 10 mpg less. Not trying to take anything away from the Tacoma, its a good truck, but the Canyon fit my needs a lot better. If I was going for a 4x4, it would be my choice for sure.

Thanks to the VERY FEW members who actually gave me advice. I wont miss the ridiculous of the way some people acted on here.

I do wish you all the best of luck!

OP, you may be happy with the new 2017 Honda Ridgeline. It will have car like comfort and can carry a bigger payload to boot. That is if you can get over the front end styling.

I agree with what you say. I too test drove many canyons/colorados and was very impressed. But, 3 different GM dealers would not work with me financially (insulted me with a trade on my old 2013 Tacoma). Toyota gave me everything I needed financially and more. No brainer for me. Both GM/Toyota trucks are awesome, can't go wrong with any of them...pros and cons to both.
