Ok after doing a little more research it is a crank case brether but for the driver side cylinder bank. But why does it releases pre tb and not post tb like the pcv valve.

Yah its composite, my neighbor has one. It's plenty strong, but you can crack it.

I'd imagine. Though I would think it'd take quite a big of force to crack it. Happen to know if there've been reports of cracked beds?

I think Toyota will replace it if you do from normal use. Our dealer told us they would. And no one had broke one yet. That was 6 years ago

Wasn't following the conversation, gimme a minute to read up.

EDIT: Looks like a crackcase breather to me too. My 3RZ has two breathers on the valve cover, one is the PCV, the other is just a hose coming from a right angle nipple going before the TB. Not sure the purpose though. I'd check the FSM to be sure, if you don't have it I can send it to you.

If I were to add a second battery (deep cycle) would it be an issue to mount it in the bed? I was thinking pos to pos and neg to frame, put an isolator on the Pos side and wire it to a switch/low voltage sensor.
And of course upgrade the alternator.

Ah makes sense. Sounds like something an enthusiast would mod to avoid. Though with what Monte just said about the replacement is true, then it doesn't sound like a bad system. That weight reduction must be nice with a composite bed.

Lets not start with the 'PCV by any other name' ordeal.

What would you call it? The PCV is just a check valve but I don't know why the other one doesn't have that.

I don't have a fsm. But I do have a Hayes repair manual. It might show it, I'll look.

I just want to know why is it covered in oil?

I dont see why not, i think just making it weatherproof is going to be your biggest concern.

I know ground loops from a amp and radio can cause distortion through the speakers. What kind of interference could be caused by running two separate ground point on a battery?

Just a friendly jab to get your goat. :)
I could start a farm with all the goats I've gotten from that statement.

It has the same function. It just doesn't have the check valve as there isn't positive pressure kicking back from the manifold.

Im going to do the same thing.

Is it necessary to upgrade the alternator?

Gotcha, so his is probably oily from being cracked around the nipple.

    Go for it. Work fine.

Not an issue on a DC system. Which the whole truck is. Ground loops happen with multiple ac circuits with un common grounds or imporper ground drains in equipment. On a truck. Ground is ground.

LEDS and HIDs are our biggest issues as they emit radio interference

Why wouldn't there be positive pressure? What makes it different from the pcv on the passenger side? They both see vacuum correct? So why are they different?
