Hey everybody, a buddy of mine and I are planning on riding this trail Jan 1-4. I would like to extend an invitation to anybody that is interested. We are planning on starting on the south side of the trail in Gluckstadt, Ms and working our way up to Batesville, Ms and then back down depending on time. Here's a link to some information on it: http://www.transamtrail.com/mississippi-hill-country-loop/

If anyone has any experience with this trail feel free to throw it out there. This will be my first time on this trail and I'm looking for things to expect. A buddy of mine has ridden it multiple times on his dual-sport but I haven't been able to find much on people taking 4x4s on it.

Yeah man, I'm excited. Right now we are planning on driving about 150 miles a day. When we get up toward Batesville I'm planning on staying around Sardis or Enid lake. I'll take plenty of pictures and make sure I post them in here.

I did! We left out early Friday morning and made our way north. I had some technical difficulty with the gps and ended up driving along the Natchez Trace longer than was supposed to. I finally got us back on the route and we put in some miles.
    IMG_1227.jpg IMG_1941.jpg
The original plan was to stay in Kosciousko the first night but we ended up getting very close to Grenada by the end of the day. We pulled in to the Frog Hollow camp ground around 7:30 and were up moving around 7 the next morning.
    IMG_1282.jpg IMG_1271.jpg IMG_1944.jpg
We finished the north route and went ahead and started moving south shortly after we got to Batesville. We decided to try to finish the south route that same day.

    IMG_1947.jpg IMG_1948.jpg
Shortly after we passed through Carrollton, we hit a major roadblock and decided that because it was dark, and we didn't feel very comfortable driving around those areas at night, we would hit the interstate and come home.
    IMG_0566.jpg
Overall, it was a fun trip. I can see how it would be a ton of fun on a motorcycle, because of the lack of technical trails, you could really cover some ground. I would definitely do it again now that I know more about the trail and I would definitely not plan on doing it during hunting season.

Have you ever checked out any roads in the Bienville National Forest? I've done some riding in Desoto in Waynesboro and Ovett, not too bad especially after a good rain.

We should set up a small weekend trip in desoto or somewhere around there. I'll be moving to Poplarville sometime in February.

I don't blame you for not knowing. It was all county roads but all the land out there was private. Saw all kinds of signs for hunt clubs and every once in a while you'd see a house.

I'd been down for that. I'm never quite sure where I'm allowed to go out in Desoto. I was down there just wandering around one day and came across a bunch of the Camp Shelby training structures. Haha

I can't commit to anything in the relative near future. We just had a baby 3 weeks ago. I can assure you there's no way I can get away from the house for more than a few hours at a time. The wife would kill me. I've done good to be able to hunt a couple of times last week lol

I will be going to school in Jackson fall of next year and would love to do this trail on the weekends. Would I have any problems with 2wd, mud tires, and a winch?
