Why did they not use the 4.0 Dual VVT-i V6?

Technically it's the same here. No one uses imperial gallons. The only place you find imperial gallons is on the sticker at a Canadian dealer...

 

Australia reports combined consumption of 12 L/100km. That converts to 19.6mpg (US). (Oz gallons are irrelevant.)

 

Every vehicle Forum is the same when a new design comes out.......The MIta Crowd was crying when the ND was released with LESS HP than the NC (albeit much lighter) Corvette guys want 800HP to the rear wheels.....they get stuck with an 8 speed transmission that hunts ....sound familiar. I am all about reliability so when I heard "Lexus".....I stopped all thought and enjoy the truck

I think you could stick a 5.0 L V8 from Ford in the Tacoma and get better mileage than that. To be honest my Ford is rated at about that for mileage. I think it's not so much that Toyota got rid of the 1 GR because of the straight out mpg number... it's more that they could squeak a mpg or two out of the smaller 3.5 L with a tighter emissions package. The comments related to engine usage versus production is also likely very true. If anyone is following Colorado production it appears that there are issues with the new Diesel that have set the truck back until Spring this year, which is now a 1.5 year delay past the original release date. I have no doubt a part of the problem is that the engine is built overseas which complicates supply and quality turn around time.

 

Ah interesting, thanks for the clarification. I'm curious as to what vehicle(s) even uses that engine. Isn't there a chance it's some kind of sedan or coupe that weighs much less than the tacoma though?

 

Landcruiser Prado in China, IIRC. If you read the post I linked, you will see that it has almost the exact same output numbers@rpm and has exact same stroke/bore/compression/displacement...

 

Yes, I read the post you linked. The 7gr has very similar numbers as the 2gr-fks. I was just wondering what vehicle was used in the dyno with the 7gr.

 

I don't think any vehicle was used for the dyno (or any manufacturer dyno). Pretty sure they go straight out of the engine to the dyno; no vehicle necessary.

I'm afraid that's the future. Efficiency and emissions standards are only getting tighter over the next few years.

On a side note.....some people here are so upset that Toyota put a "car" engine in the new Taco. Yet nobody seemed to care or even notice that GM stuck a Camaro/Cadillac ATS engine in the Colorado/Canyon. Just sayin'....
