If anyone else misses the stand alone temp/compass gauge that was featured in the earlier 2nd gen model years, it's now possible to do the mod. Got it done this past Tuesday. Write up soon to come.

Thanks for the clock info and that's a great idea as that front sunglass storage spot is pretty much useless.

Yups, exactly why I did the mod. Can't even fit regular sunglasses.

Nice work! I just bought the Gentex 453 otherwise I'd probably look at doing this too. Only complaint about the gentex 453 is it doesn't appear to be available in white display like the rest of my lighting... But pretty small detail really. I like how what you did finishes off looking factory equipped

Thank you sir. Yups love doing some simple and subtle mods. More in line of keeping everything stock/oem-ish as possible.

I also just bought a gentex mirror or I would've done this.

I had created a thread asking if it was possible.
I'm interested for your write up.

I did the mirror also, never crossed my mind that the old style would fit right up in there or I would have gone that way too.

I also wanted to go the mirror route, plus at first I wanted to put the main switch from Switch Pros kit on that temp/compass housing. After looking at the wiring for that gauge it's pretty much a stand alone unit, all it needed was power and illumination, run the temp ambient up front, tap into the VSS, calibrate it, and you're pretty much set.

After a lot of searching I finally located a Clock out of a 2012, these are not easy to find. Anyways I also forgot to ask you guys that did the conversion, does the clock dim as it should when you turn the headlights on?

I could be wrong but I think that bottom pic is a picture of his truck (installed). If not it definitely looks like a newer model with the older temp / compass installed. Turned out really well.

It's already installed. Yes bottom pic is with it installed with the newer overhead console.

I'm going to disagree. The temp and compass is pretty much spot on. It's a lot more accurate then the temp on the headunit(13-15). Plus it's instant temp rather then waiting for the headunit to refresh to your current location.

Edit. FYI. 2009 and above(not sure up to what year Toyota kept the gauge up to) pulls temp from the AC amplifier. so I'm not sure how accurate/inaccurate the temp would be. Where the 2008 and below pulled temp straight from the ambient air temperature sensor that's mounted in the front of the radiator just below the hood release latch.

I may have the part number for the 12-14 clock/hazard part.

Yes it does dim when you turn on the corner lights/headlights.

The part number on the clock I scored is from a 2012 and is 84332-04100. Glad to hear that it dims as it should.

If you have a 12-14 clock, you should be able to trade in a heartbeat as those clocks are hard to find, I was so happy when I finally scored one.

I know a couple of people have swapped clock for non-clock. Would the clock from a 2009 work in a 2015?

Yeah I think it will work but it doesn't match the rest of the dash or instruments.
