So...with all this talk of the various pieces of gear....do people have good ways of storing and organizing everything?

I have the Hi-Lift and an "innovative" way of mounting it.

I ended up getting two 4mm ammo cans behind the seat. One of these 40mm cans is intended for recovery gear. The more stuff I look at though, the less I think it will all fit.

Now I am in the process of getting the rest of the recovery gear and finding places to store them. I plan on using the bed of the truck as a "living space". I will have some drawers in the back to use, once they are build. As of now, that project is stalled. I plan on getting the cap and bed platform fixed up before Spring. In the meantime, what are people doing to carry and store all the various pieces of recovery gear?

For those who haven't seen it yet, the Wrap-It Strap can be very useful.

    enough to go over stuff
Traction boards are ziptied to the roof. They are my first option...
If those don't work. I have a winch remote and synthetic d ring in my drivers side door with a tree saver under the seat.

My highlift is mounted in the bed of the truck with a axe and shovel on top.
I have two snatch blocks and a 10 foot tree saver in the rear drivers side door
I have a 20' tow strap behind the rear seats and 30' snatch strap
There are D rings in all 4 corners of the bumpers.
I have snow chains in the bed of the truck too.

I never see many people use the smittybilt beaver step, they advertise it as a 10k lb recovery point I believe. I do not have one but have been looking at it as a nice multi use option in place of the popular receiver hitch recovery shackle that a lot of people suggest on here. I'm currently looking to purchase my first recovery point for the rear of my 2012 dcsb with oem bumper.

I have snatch straps, shackles, snatch-blocks, tree straps, etc. all stored in a tool bag that I throw in the bed and strap down while wheeling. I have receiver shackle mounts and a receiver mounted winch that I store out of the elements in the bed of the truck with a camper shell when not in use. I also have a shovel and Maxtrax mounted to the bed side rails.

One issue with the stock Tacoma for recovery is the lack of a option for a solid and secure D-ring shackle mount on the front without a aftermarket bumper or receiver mount.

Nice set up. I wish I went with the portable winch instead of front only like I have. Doesn't help me much when my nose is buried in a ditch covered in snow. I need to mount my shovel some day for Now it flops around like a fish out of water. And thanks to my friends my I need to buy a new axe they broke it splitting wood at hell hole. Did you make the tan brackets on the sides and bootom of your bed? I like that tie down one you got.

The winch bracket was fabricated by @bark beetle. The shovel mounts are from 4XInnovations. I made the Maxtrax mounts using a strip of steel bolted to 4XInnovations shovel mounts.

Lots of good advice here. I see lots of mention of "straps". Be sure to understand the difference between a recovery strap and a tow strap and in what situation to use each.

Nice thread.. I had meant to keep up with it, lost it and now found it.

Can someone explain the difference between the following?

    Snatch strap
    Tow strap
    Recovery strap
Tree strap - im guessing you wrap this around the tree lol
    Synthetic shackle?
    Kinetic rope?
