Insuring your lifted truck

I was told by my insurace broker today that my insurance policy will be void if I lift my truck. I realize that the rules are likely state-/province-specific, but has anyone with a lift of equal to or less than 3" run into this problem?

I want to install my new 5100's at 2.5" but am reluctant to do so if I lose my insurance coverage. I'm particularly interested in drivers in Ontario, Canada.

I would read the policy over to find out about that.
They may not cover the parts or whatever...but canceling your coverage is pretty overboard.

 

That's what I thought... I'll call her again tomorrow. I'll ask her to show me in the fine print where that clause or sentence is. Seems a little ridiculous, all I'm doing is swapping out the factory shocks and UCAs.

After working in a job that involves insurance and agents on a fairly regular basis...I've learned that agents tend to come up with some pretty ridiculous (and incorrect) stuff about what is covered and isn't.

 

No way that s right. The truck isn't any less safe. Maybe just a few extra dollars in parts. That lady probably has just had a bad experience doesn't want to deal with it. Although if the driver isn't careful they can roll it easier.

Actually sounds more like good old fashioned Capitalism. Just good business sense to deny a claim based on that you "modified" the suspension. Unless your modification is SPECIFICALLY included in your policy/contract...the Insurance company can deny to pay a claim..I'm not saying they will...just that they CAN.
They deny claims all the time.
You Sue them and maybe goes into litigation for years. they have teams of lawyers that push paper for them for at no extra cost. You may not be able to afford it.

Check with your agent and ask to see the clause in your policy regarding modifications or specifically, the exclusions. This is your first and best defense

 

LOL are you serious it is corporatism. I am for FREE ENTERPRISE. The society we live in is far from FREE ENTERPRISE. You have to be licensed, bonded, insured, or know who to bride to do anything. Then you are taxed to death going to work for big brother. Why do stupid people keep making the same mistakes time and time again. Hundreds of civilizations have fallen to tyranny this century alone. Like you said, you call them regularly and update your mods. As long as it is in the writing in your policy that you are covered and there is no fine print or clause giving the insurance company wiggle room to decline a claim based on any of your mods then you are good to go.

 

I agree with you. We are not really Free Enterprise. Every time I open a new enterprise someone comes along to hit me for all kinds of fees. If I paint the walls of the building with advertising they want me to pay advertising fees and get it approved by the association...more fees, license fees, they want me to have insurance in case somebody slips and falls or gets hurt, they want me to have a business license, permit fees, inspection fees, fire department fees, taxes to pay for the disposal of garbage even though I take it to the woods myself, taxes to pay for the cops, taxes for the buses, DUDE I have had it with this crap! What the f...!

What is the point? When I called the cops they were late. When I called the Insurance they weaseled out. When the fire dept came they fined me. When someone complains about my service or merchandise they want their money back or want to sue me. Bunch of horse crap.

Buyer beware...Caveat Emptor! That is how it should be.

Cool but doesn't apply to Insurance. With Insurance, if it is not SPECIFICALLY on the policy as COVERED...AND THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE PAYING IT.....
then it is NOT COVERED.;

 

ohhh... my bad i read the thread wrong i thought it was for warranty... my buddy had his car jacked before and had got i back but the problem was that his In dash navi and sound system were gone... what a surprise.... he said the insurance DIDNT pay for it.... but then again its gonna depend on the insurer...

 

Tell yer insurance man to take a hike and go elsewhere. He's an idiot....
