I personally think that the rear bumper being colormatched makes the gaps a lot more visible. If it was black it would blend in a lot better.

Those gaps have to be there for a plate bumper, the truck twists up to 1/2" when you are offroad. There was a great slo-mo of just how bad the frame and cabs flex on Expo overland. You could see the headlight trim actually dip down below the top of the bumper. The only way to not have those gaps is to go with a bumper that sits out in front of the body and grill so that when the flex happens it passes behind the bumper.

I would strongly disagree. Insain actually does some bad ass fabrication. Have you not seen the last couple years of Toytec SEMA vehicles? This rear bumper does not define the quality of their work or what they represent.

My opinion is because the bumper is tan instead of the traditional black it shows the gap that is present between the tailgate and bumper much more prevalent. Look at your stock 2016 tailgate and bumper and you'll notice the same gap. Is this because of how the bumper folds down and needs room to angle? I agree there could have been a backplate folded up and painted the same tan color to mesh better with the tailgate, but maybe that's what the owner wanted when they talked through the project. Only Insain could answer these questions.

I jumped on the bandwagon and talked trash on the bumper also, but in no way does that give us no namers the right to come on here and trash this very reputable company on TW. I'd really like to hear more background on the reason for the design.

Just as an FYI, here's another back bumper Insain did for the 2016. I'd buy this all day:

I agree. Now that bumper, paired up with the front bumper on the Quicksand, would work very nicely.

that rear bumper is terrible. that gap may be left for a tire swing out though. or maybe im just being nice and giving them an idea to cover the gap.

That rear bumper is so bad, but lets focus on the positive. The positive being me laughing out loud at work reading every ones funny comments about it.

To answer some of the questions and concerns.

    The Gap,

The tailgate on a 2016 Tacoma is bowed out further in the center then on the edges. So when the tailgate is down it sits about 3/16 of a inch above the bumper. If the bumper was any higher then this the tailgate would hit the bumper and damage the paint. The reason we did not put a back plate on the bumper going up to cover this gap is the back plate would have to be made out of 22 gauge metal as when the tailgate is down it comes extremely close to the bed of the truck. The gap that remains is less then 1/4". With this thin of material it would not be sturdy enough to ensure that the tail gate would not hit that back plate causing damage to the paint. The color match of the bumper does help emphasize the gap as the black does stand out more then with our standard black bumper. As was mentioned the Toytec Rear bumper is a slightly different design but the gap is the same on both of them but it appears completely different due to the color. We are also working on a tire swing that will help hide this gap.

    Cutting for the front bumper.
The stock front bumper will have to be cut to install ours. We do provide a sticker template that will help you out in the process. We did this so we could simplify the front bumper around the headlights and lower the cost of the bumper itself.

I would like to say that the customer requested the Color matching, and is designing the theme of the vehicle themselves. We were responsible for the Front and Rear bumper only. I will read and take into consideration the criticism you have of these parts.

I am currently trying to get some better pictures of the rear bumper but the customer is on vacation over the holidays so it will be a little while.

    Front bumper
    Rear bumper :puke:

I do think the rear could look better in black and I'd like to see the front in black as well.

that's good that you explained the gap to everyone. if you added a tire swing out itll cover up that area really nicely.

That front bumper is awesome! I like the toytec rear bumper a lot. These are on my short list for my build.

Kudo's to InSainFab for explaining the design of the bumper.

As he said, it's not his pig, nor his farm, and he is just doing what the customer wants.

That rear bumper looks great, makes me wonder why they didn't advertise this one more than the other.

I take it you are talking about the Toytec rear bumper. The reason for this is that bumper is made out of Aluminum vs Steel. It does not have a built in receiver like our production version and is a slightly different shape along with the license plate mount recess area. We are trying to stay honest with the version that you would receive if you order one.
