Hi, first post on TW. I picked up a 4x4 Access Cab Utility Package w/ 2.7l about 3 weeks ago. Not having the back seats is great! Does anyone know if the rear doors on the Utility Package trucks are wired for speakers? I'd like to add speakers to these rear doors, but not at the expense of running speaker wire from the head unit. Also, this is the first truck I've owned - are there ladder racks available for the 2016 Tacoma's yet, or can I get away with using a 'universal' style rack?

Questions for you. Where are you located? How long did it take for you to receive it? How much did you pay for it?

I am located in extreme upstate NY (30 miles south of US/CAN border). Believe it or not, this truck was sitting on the lot. I had researched purchasing a 2015 Utility Package Tacoma early last year, but was informed by a different dealer that only three 2015 Utility Package Tacoma's were shipped to upstate NY from the factory in 2015, two of which were customer ordered. I was shocked to see that this truck was available in my area. I got a great trade-in on my 2012 Honda CR-V, so I paid just north of $24,500 for mine. This particular truck was equipped with Bed Extender, Chrome Exhaust Tip, Tube Steps, and Rubber Floor Mats by the dealer - included in price.

Nice! You're lucky! How does it feel so far? I haven't gotten a chance to test drive once and I'm not sure I ever will so I think I would just have to go and order it.

This is my first truck. I am used to the slow acceleration of the 2016 Tacoma, having driven a 2012 CRV and a 2008 Jeep Compass previously. If you never have more than 1 passenger in your vehicle, this is as close to a Regular Cab pickup you can get. This truck came with Toyo tires, which I have already found inadequate for the harsh winters (it was -22F here this week), but I owned Firestone Destination LE2's on my CR-V, and I'll likely purchase them again for this truck (they come on many of the new Tacoma's rolling off the lot).

I as well am used to slow acceleration with my Hyundai Sonata.

    Harsh Winters? Potsdam?

You got any pictures of the truck? I understand the bumpers are unpainted as well but am curious how well those match up with the black paint of the truck.

I am close to Potsdam, but I purchased this from Della in Plattsburgh. I would recommend Della to anyone. They were very easy to work with. These are the only pictures I have of the truck, as it as snowed almost every day since I purchased it.

    Nice!

I just stole your post code and built the same truck... confirms this is available! (just not in the SW it would seem)

I am in SoCal and cannot get the build either. I am planning to go to the dealer to see if I can get it custom ordered.

    Go on cars.com
    Find the one you want
Call dealer and make the deal
They'll mail you the paperwork to sign and mail back
Go on uship.com and select that you're shipping a car from xxxxx zip code to xxxxxx zip code
It cost me $400 to ship from Louisiana to Maryland, $950 from California to Maryland
    Easy. Done.
There is no reason to compromise based on your location.
There is no reason why you can't just buy the vehicle somewhere else and ship it or drive it.

For that cost I might as well not opt for the Utility Package so it's kinda of a moot point as you may understand. The reason why I want the utility package is to save the cost of not having to go through the hassle and pay extra which you have just mentioned.

I'll just go talk to the dealer to see what they have to say.

Toyota dealership in Kansas City has several 4 cylinder, utility package, 2wd, ac tacomas. 2016's too. Their website says $22,xxx

    Hendricks Toyota

I'd get a utility package sr, but I want color matching bumper, & mirror caps. I could get them painted but I'm worried they'd be a bit off.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but does anyone know if the Utility Package truck's rear doors are wired for speakers? Any recommendations on a ladder rack for the 2016's? I'm trying to haul two 10' recreational kayaks. I have Thule Hull-a-Port 834 carriers that I removed from my previous vehicle.

Yeah I understand you, but you're also physically not able to buy the car where you're from. So if you want this car this is really your only option other than flying and driving yourself, which will certainly be more costly. The ability to negotiate over the phone with multiple dealers also gives you a leg-up in your final vehicle cost.

For example, I found my exact SR Utility locally. But they wanted full MSRP after I drove it. I found another dealer that offered me $400 off MSRP after I drove it and talked for a while. I didn't bite. I called multiple other dealers far away and made it really really simple for the salesman. I told them the situation very cut&dry and received numbers that were $500-1500 off. So yeah, in this situation I'm paying $500 for shipping, but I saved $1500 on the car by buying over the phone far away. My net savings is $1,000 which is $600 better than buying locally. But the key for you is... this system can actually get you the car you want!

What kind of gas mileage are you getting, or is it too early to tell?

They're performing much better than advertised. Personally I believe they're undervaluing the numbers to kill demand in light of the new and much more profitable V6. And it worked. Because of the 19-21 estimation that's lower than the v6's, people immediately disregard it. You see posts all the time about "why would you buy the 2.7 if it has worse mpgs?!".... But as it turns out.... the V6 has very unreliable and unstable mpg numbers whereas the 2.7L has been outperforming their mpg numbers by in improved 5-25%.

There have been 4 owners that I know of on here posting about their 4x4 5spd 2.7L SR
    1) 22-24
    2) 21-23
    3) 21+
    4) Regularly complains of 15mpg in confusion after adding 10ply 285 tires, 3" lift, and heavy wheels.

    I haven't seen a trend yet with the SR 4x2 Auto 2.7L

What you've said is pretty much inline with the second gen 2.7L mpg people been posting on fuelly.

Oh wow, yes actually this makes much more sense when you explain it that way. I'll try this method as well.

    Thanks!
