    Hello All,

I have used this forum a lot for super helpful information, but I finally have a question that I want a more precise answer for.

My mechanic found two holes on my 2000 Tacoma frame. He submitted all of the information to local dealer, but after reading the notice and threads on here it sounds like unless my truck was sold on December 28th, 2000 I am probably outside the 15 year warranty. Still waiting to hear back though.

All that being said I was curious what a fair price would be for this truck as I had planned on upgrading to 4 door in the near future anyways. Here are some details:

    2000 2.7L Access Cab 4x4
    190,000 miles
5,000 miles on BF Goodrich AT
    Cracked windshield
    Snugtop cap with bed rug
Dent free and overall clean (minus the rust)

    Recent work:
All new suspension including leaf springs
    New rotors
    Transmission service
    Valves adjusted (some were tight)
    New muffler
    Thermostat
    Spark plugs
    Alignment

Sorry for such a long post as my first and thank you for your time!

One line all the way across about two inches from the bottom. Was only a month old of course.

    Location is Alaska.

Thank you for the reply. I want to be honest with the buyer, but really could use the money.

Is $5,000 reasonable? Or too much to ask with the frame.

Ok, I edited my original post because one is definitely bigger than 1/2 inch. That guess was based that of memory of quick look mechanics pictures.

The biggest is on drivers side near the leaf spring connection and the other is on passenger directly above the leaf spring.

You should be able to take care of the holes fairly easily. I just finished repairing my frame (on a 1995). Do you know if the mechanic did a visual inspection of the frame or if he did the hammer test?

I think that 5k might be a tad high if there is frame damage, but it might not be an issue. Also depends on how fast you are looking to sell it.

Yep - those are the spots that rust out. Similar to mine, although mine was much worse. You might want to bang the spots with a hammer to see how bad it is.

I did not ask if they did, but it does look like they scraped around on the drivers side the way the weld is bent.

Left a message for a local welder to see what repair options are.

The other side of me does not want to even deal with it. I had planned on getting a new truck in the near future anyways.

$2000 would be disappointing but that's all it's worth. I guess I am just wondering what the max price I should ask without offending anyone.

Your welder will need to look at your truck.

The best way is to figure a price limit of just how much your willing to spend.

Then ask your welder if it can be done for that amount.

If you have a relationship or history with them.

This is what I try and do with these types of jobs although in most cases I charge double if they want to help.

Sometimes these jobs can get quite more involved then one thinks.

Im not sure what the market is like there, you could always list it with a higher price, say your negotiable and see what type of offers you get.

The frame rust can get pretty involved since you need to first cut out the bad spots and then wire wheel so that you have good metal to weld to. You might even have to drop the tank and pull the bed depending on how safe the welder wants to be and how much room he needs. Here are pics of my frame repairs - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1995-rebuild.404579/
