Are the mounts pretty standard from bar to bar? If I purchase a light from a manufacturer and then the mount from rough country for the grill, will the be compatible?

I would assume so. As long as the bar is exactly the same length. Especially with overseas(eBay) purchases, they sometimes list the length as the total length with mounts. But most have pictures/detailed measurements of the actual bar length from end cap to end cap, as well as total length from mount to mount. And of course height and depth. Just make sure you look at that. There are bars that have bottom mounts as well, but you should be able to see that clearly in pics of whatever light you're looking at. Most have the leg mounts with notches in the side so they can be adjusted and not slip. Some do not have this like mine. There is just holes/threads and no snap joints(or whatever they're called) and can be prone to rotating if not tight enough. I used rubber washers on my roof bar so it wouldn't slip/pivot up or down. But they are dry rotting and I plan to drill an extra hole in the end cap and the mount, so that I can put an extra bolt or maybe a pin of some sort to kinda make it permanent. As I don't ever need to adjust it anyways once it's set. But generally you don't have to worry about the mounts, it's the bar and what is utilized on the end caps for mounting. Even if you get one that has the non slip inserts with notches, it won't help if you get a mount that doesn't have the same thing. So you'll just have to get creative and find a way to keep it from pivoting if that's the case.. maybe link out what exactly you're looking at for us?

Lol yep, pretty much. I was just throwing that out there though because like I said, mine isn't super tight. And he probly won't have an issue being in the grille. But with my roof bar, it's starting to get loose and I have to (albeit rarely) manually adjust it straight if I hit a good bump, or go through the car wash.

Not sure why length matters unless it's a cradle bracket. I plan to buy the rough country mount for a cheaper light, hoping it will fit.
