LIFT/TIRES gas milage drop

Going with the run-of-the-mill 2 1/2" leveling kit, spacer/aal in back, 17"rims & tires... how much of a drop do you see in gas milage?

 

You probably won't see a change in gas mileage if you go with the stock tire size of 265/65/17. If you go any bigger, like a 285/70/17, you probably will see a drop of about 2 mpg - I don't have any backup data for this yet as I haven't calculated what I've been getting running on 285/70/17's.

 

You have to remember also that your speedometer and odometer are going to be off with larger tires. You'll have to factor that in as well.

With your tire change, you have about a 7% error. So if you wen't 250 miles according to your odometer, you'd have really gone 267.5 miles. If we assume it took 14 gallons to fill at that gas mileage, you'd indicate about 17.8 mpg (250/14) when in actuality you'd be getting 19.1 mpg (267.5/14).

 

That might actually be a good thing! Having less miles than I've actually driven! Sweet! I might still get a calibrator, but debating if $240 is worth it.
