Shotgun vs pistol for home defense, this caliber vs that caliber...

How bout we all get ninja stars and train up :D

I joke.... But really do keep a kukri near my bed at home. Couple knives in the truck too.

I live in the country. Lots of firearms all around here. I can walk to a 100 yard range on my buddies property. They blow up tannerite out there all the time.

The best home defense out here? A good dog. Won't let anyone sneak on your property, if they do while your home you have time to pick your firearm of choice and handle the situation without making a mess in your home. Lol

I just moved back here from Philly. Had a stray .45 come through our bedroom window not long before leaving.

Row homes and large caliber pistols are not a good match.

Where I live now, if a bullet comes through my window... It's intentional, or I'm drunk -joke.

A Judge would not be my first choice for home defense...

    But that's just me, lol

Just my opinions, and I'm no high speed instructor.

In an urban environment my choice is whatever pistol I've trained and are comfortable with, loaded with hollow points, in a paddle holster ready to go and a handheld light.

I'm not a fan of paddle holsters for normal carry, but in this case they are quick to put on and get out the door. If you have to go outside and have neighbors you may want it concealed and not at the ready.
FMJ ammo is designed for full penetration, so you know it's going through walls, possibly even after it goes through your intended target. So hollow points are my choice there. Frangible would be the safest, however also the safest for the bad guy/girl.
Finally your handheld light can now be used to ID the noise, can be flashed at your family without also pointing a weapon at them(or neighbors), etc.

Lasers are great allowing you to shoot without eyes-to-sights. Crimson trace grips usually allow you to use the same holster.

My last house in Texas I was on land with no neighbors visible, I would go straight for my AR with a big honking Surefire light, slip out the back door and go out and around to see what the noise was (Picture Elias from Platoon lol).

    ...usually just Bambi.

Meh. I'll stick with the dog, my 5906 and the 12ga, methinks. S&W does sweet revolvers, but I'm in love with my 5906. Even loaded with 147gr. +P's it's a soft shooter. I put tritium sights on it right after I got it, practiced a crapton, and it's been my bedstand gun ever since.

I'm in the market for a Blunderbuss. Load it up with nails, rocks, legos. BOOOOM! The nails will penetrate, rocks will injure, and the legos make it to where they cant walk away...

I like to breach the room naked, it has the same effect as a flashbang. You can add the helicopter maneuver for added effectiveness.

To be fair, most robbers would probably bail out in a hurry if some naked guy suddenly burst into the room waving his dick around.

I called 5 gun stores around the Bay Area the other day looking for the 19. Only one gun store had some. It's called Solar Tactical in Livermore. My dad and I both bought one. The store owner said due to the Obama-scare and many LE and military agencies are adopting the 19, it will be hard to come by for a little while.
Can't help you in LA though.

This plan has gotten too complicated. I'm going to stick with just shooting them, I think.

My uncles dog goes ballistic if he sees a bird flying over "his" property.

Back to guns theyre having a problem with coyotes right now, ar10 takes care of that real easy when he spots them on his property
