A month or so ago we were talking gas cans. I just completed one of my biggest trips of the year, Death Valley.

On this trip I always carry reserve/emergency gas and had an opportunity to take a photo of what I'm using.

    Midwest 5-gallon gas can - $18.99
Ez-Pour Solid Base Replacement Gas Tank Cap - $3.00
    Ratchet straps ~ $5.00

    • Throw the CARB spout into the trash upon exiting the retail store, and replace with solid cap from Amazon.
    • User a super siphon to transfer gas into gas tank.

Simple, clean, effective, no leaks, not one drop.

Just goes to show you don't have to spend a fortune solving off-road / back country / expo challenges.

are you stopping to release the pressure in that? id imagine with the temperature swings that can happen out there that that can make it swell or contract enough to maybe damage the container and cause leaks? ive never travelled with any of those things so im naïve to what is the norm

Venting modern gas cans is totally unnecessary according to what I've read from various manufacturers. They are designed to be blown up like balloons and the can contract and walls can even go inverted. Manufacturers are starting to print on the consumer labeling that this is normal and not do dick around with venting them on hot days. Just leave them the hell alone, and it's all good.

Nice. One note: I'd put some sort of rubber anti-chafe material between the metal ratchet strap buckle edges and the plastic can. Hard to tell from this pic, but it looks like they are in—or could shift into—contact with the can.

if its any comparison, my wet okoles heated seat got left on overnight and it killed the battery. I know a lot of yall are running two batteries, but it really sucked to wake up in the middle of nowhere on some random forest service road and have a completely dead battery. it was a battery that was about 5 years old so it didn't take a charge after I found someone to jump me. had to hitch a ride all the way into town for a new one.

Just used one up in Mammoth. Made all the difference in the world to let it run for 40 minutes before getting into bed. Instead of it being miserably cold until your body warmed up the blankets, it was nice and toasty.

I have one with a timer which is nice incase you need a heat boost in the middle of the night.

yea I don't really, but I don't do serious overland stuff like yall. but either way, that last time it wouldn't have worked anyways for me. I think the combo of a temp of about 20 degrees and a full battery drain just finally did the battery in. my lady friend felt awful haha (it was her seat).

Good point. I'll check/monitor for any rubbing from the last trip, but so far about 500 cumulative off road miles and no problems that I've seen. I make them ratchets pretty tight. :)

I've always wanted one but been afraid of the power draw. In the comments section, someone wrote that the blanket draws 48 watts, or about 4 Amp hours. That's not too bad at all. If you had a 100 AH deep cycle battery, you use the blanket for 10 consecutive hours, you would draw about 40 AH from the battery, and be down to about 60% depth of charge.

Yup! There are ways to protect against that with a LVD (low voltage disconnect) switch, but your cost and complexity of the +12v blanket project will rise. :D

How you are guys powering lights and charging electronics when set up for camp? Thinking about doing a secondary battery in the bed but not sure how to re charge. Considering running connections to the stock battery location and running a bigger alternator or using a solar panel on the roof. What are your guys opinions and findings?

Do you guys foresee an interest in a plano case group buy?

One last question. Looking to make a shower. Saw on here somewhere, someone pressurized a water container with a spicket on the end of it. Any one have a right up on how to do this or suggestions on how to do a budget friendly shower?

Depends on which ones you can get for the group buy.
Personally I would be more likely to participate in one for seahorse or pelican cases
