I run hollow points in my glock for home protection just so i know it won't go through too many walls, but nothing beats a short barreled shotgun. The sound of racking a shell is scary enough! Plus they are the most fun a cheapest at the range!

I have a glock 19 and love it. I don't keeps it here since I have too many roommates.
Shotgun is always a good choice for a new guy. Easy to use for anybody. Point and shoot.
Hollow points are a must for home protection. Especially if your house is close to others.

I third the shotgun for home defense. Especially if you're a first time buyer.

If the snow stays on Fig Mtn this weekend, I may do that instead of West Camino Cielo.

The forecast keeps changing but the last time I checked it said possibility of rain on Saturday, which probably means snow up on Fig Mtn if we're early enough!

Hmmm, the main point would have been to do some snow wheelin'. I guess snow is still snow. Can run over to Refugio Rd and up to West afterwards depending on when I get out of the house. It can be difficult to get the ladyfriend out of the house before 11am on weekends... :boink:

Makes sense. They closed the Divide Peak gate down to the hot springs before the rains. Who knows when it'll open to vehicles again.

Yea I was up on fig mtn two weeks ago and all the dirt roads were closed. If it snows they'll close the gates before ranger peak coming up happy canyon and the lower gate on fig mtn rd so you have to walk up to the snow

Nothing wrong with a handgun for HD. Get a glock with a light and 10 round mags and you are good to go. I prefer a handgun for HD because it is more maneuverable but my second choice is AR15 and third choice is shotgun. Also a shotgun with HD loads will penetrate a lot of walls too. Dont quote me but I think the safest round as far as wall penetration would be 45acp or .223 with frangible bullets. What you end up getting isnt as important as making sure you train with it and have a plan if you are home invaded.

You still have to aim with a shotgun, and you have less ammo to use. Shotgun also recoils much harder than an Ar15 making follow up shots much harder and rate of fire lower. Any HD gun should have a light so hitting a target in the dark shouldnt be a problem, but Id bet its much easier to be on target with my ar15 and its light and red dot than a shotgun with a light and just using the bead. Im not saying that one is necessarily better, each has its pros and cons, with the main pro of a shotgun being stopping power but it lacks in other areas.
